Blood was spilled on the New Baneshwar road when the peaceful protest organized by Gen-G against corruption on August 23 broke out. The violent repression by the state resulted in the death of at least 21 youths around the Parliament building on the same day, and the nature of the movement spread like a storm the next day.

From the morning of 24th August, the thunder of vandalism was heard indiscriminately from private houses to public property. The breath of the city stopped. Demonstrators across the street, black smoke in the sky, the country suddenly became shocked . Resignation of Prime Minister, Trahimam of Ministers. Military helicopters rescued ministers from Pulchok and KP Oli from Baluwatar and 'hid' in Bhairavanath Gan (Old) in Maharajganj and Staff College in Shivpuri.

From the early morning of August 24, there was a roar of vandalism from private houses to public property. The breath of the city stopped. Demonstrators all over the streets, black smoke in the sky, the country became shocked at once . Resignation of Prime Minister, Trahimam of Ministers. Military helicopters rescued ministers from Pulchok and KP Oli from Baluwatar and 'hid' in Bhairavanath Gan (Old) in Maharajganj and Staff College in Shivpuri. The curfew issued by the Chief District Officer (CDO) was reduced to paper. In reality, the country was taken over by the protesters. The Tribhuvan International Airport was targeted by the protestors when the military helicopter that flew to rescue the Minister/Prime Minister while the tragedy was spreading among the common people.

In order to target the airport, provocative expressions such as destroying the runway of Kathmandu airport, burning the plane, and exploding bombs were spread through the social media platform Discord. According to a military source at No. 14 Bahini in Gouchar, Kathmandu Airport had already received the information about 'spreading chaos' even inside the airport. But the collective efforts of some soldiers and government officials, the strategy, vigilance and tactics of the time saved the airport .

On the second day of the protest, 11:30 was the time for the second shift staff to arrive at the airport. The first news reached the airport that protesters had set fire to the road in Tilganga. Afternoon employees, air traffic controllers, pilots, air service employees were called to the airport through the Bagmati Corridor or branch road bypassing the main route.

But the Tilganga fire spread to Koteshwar, Threekune too . In other words, the passengers, pilots and air service staff entering the Kathmandu airport were obstructed . At that time, passengers who were supposed to go to Delhi, Sri Lanka, Dubai, Bangladesh had already entered some airports. Some were entering . "Around 1 o'clock, black smoke was seen in the sky from Koteshwar to the south," said Hansraj Pandey, the general manager who was monitoring the situation from the airport at that time. Airport General Manager Pandey said, "Since the speed of the wind has become normal, we were able to land the plane from the north side." But we kept 7 big jet planes on hold one after the other in the sky above Simra . Because the smoke made it impossible to land the plane in Kathmandu.'

As smoke was seen in various places of the flight path, Kathmandu airport issued a notam citing 'safety of the plane' and the Airport Security Committee decided to stop all flights/landings from 2:30 am. When the committee chaired by General Manager Pandey made this decision, the officers of Security Committee No. 14 Assistant Chief of Staff Rathi Manoj Thapa, Airport Police Chief SSP Somendrasingh Rathore, Immigration Chief Narahari Thapa and Nepal Airlines Chief Station Manager Homprasad Parajuli were observing the security situation. The customs chief could not come that day .

After Kathmandu Airport was closed, Himalaya Airlines Airbus from Lhasa failed to land at Kathmandu Airport and made an emergency landing in Pokhara. According to General Manager Pandey, Air India from Delhi returned to Delhi. Indigo's flight from Delhi diverted to Lucknow. Srilankan Air flight returned to Colombo. Another ship of Indigo from Delhi returned to Delhi. The flight from Dubai was back to Sri Lanka . Similarly, Buddha Air ships coming to Kathmandu from Nepalgunj and Rajviraj were diverted to Nepalgunj and Biratnagar.

Kathmandu Airport has built a heliport at Nalinchok in Bhaktapur since last year due to lack of parking space for helicopters. When the movement of Gen-G was going on, there were 5 helicopters of private airline companies . The next day, after the protestors created a riot during the movement of Gen-G in the Kathmandu Valley, the private sector started begging to protect their ships. From there, 5 helicopters had to be brought to Goucher.

Kathmandu Airport gave permission. But there were no pilots. Airline companies could not send pilots because of street protests everywhere. After having to save helicopters worth more than 1 billion rupees, a helicopter was chartered for Bhaktapur Nalinchok by looking for pilots from other companies at Kathmandu Airport. The pilots went and flew Nalinchok's helicopter and brought it to Gouchar.

When the plane could not be landed on the runway, the rumor that the leaders escaped from the helicopter flying towards Bhaktapur was spread on the streets and social media. On the other hand, three army helicopters rescued the ministers from Bhainsepati Minister Quarter and the Prime Minister from Baluwatar around the same time. Another rumor spread that the army's helicopter flying towards the southwest had hidden the leader in Chandragiri .

'Especially at that time, a private helicopter was brought to Kathmandu airport from Nalinchok. "The army helicopter rescued the minister and the prime minister and rescued the police who were stuck in the police circle from Maharajganj, but the protestors landed at the golden gate (main gate) of the airport due to rumors that the leader had been driven away," General Manager Pandey said.

According to him, at that time protesters from Gaushala, Tinukne, Bhimsengola blocked the main gate. Made many attempts to come inside. They first set fire to the exit gate of the now Deepak Malhotra-built IMS building. Rumors that their 'leaders are fleeing abroad' increased the crowd around the airport .

Demonstrators gathered in Golden and started using force to enter. Slogans started. Their only statement was that leaders are sitting in VVIP. They are fleeing abroad at night,' General Manager Pandey said to Kantipur, 'The colonel stationed there had foresight and handled it in a smart way.'  All the security officers gathered in the general manager's office were 'monitoring' the street scene outside the CCTV. As the police station and traffic block were set on fire in the city, the psychological impact of the police was also affected at the Kathmandu airport.

Meanwhile, Manoj Thapa, head of No. 12 Bahini under the command of Ganpati Birendra Pun of Kalibox Gana, laid the first security cordon at the Golden Gate . To help the siege, the second and third soldiers were ready to defend the siege airport . Another lieutenant colonel Mohandhwaj Karki was also assigned there . The two guards did not allow the protestors to enter. "They kept the protestors trapped there for hours in polite and decent language," a military source at Bahini told Kantipur, "but the protestors are taking a stand that they should be allowed to enter the airport anyway." The Golden Gate was also set on fire.'

7 international ships that had come to Simra could not come to Kathmandu. But at least 1,000 passengers who were supposed to fly on that plane from here were at the airport from 11 o'clock. The airport was closed till 4 pm. Passengers were hoping to be able to fly after 4pm . But the situation in Kathmandu had become dire. The security agency had already received reports that more than 160 offices including the Singh Darbar and the Supreme Court had been set on fire across the country. As the ship did not come, they were stranded. The airport could not evacuate the passengers. It was not possible for passengers to go on foot with their luggage. General Manager Pandey kept a fire engine on stand-by near the domestic terminal to control the sudden fire.

After the situation did not calm down even after 4 o'clock on Tuesday, the Security Committee of Kathmandu Airport took a second decision to close the airport until 12 o'clock on Wednesday morning. Until this decision was made, coffeeshops, cafes and hotels outside the airport were closed. Again at 7:30 pm, the rumor that the leaders are fleeing to Dubai on a flight of a Nepali private airline was repeated.

Demonstrators gathered in Golden and started using force to enter. Slogans started. Their only statement was that leaders are sitting in VVIP. They are fleeing abroad at night," General Manager Pandey said to Kantipur, "The colonel stationed there had foresight and handled it in a clever manner." Then the protestors asked not all the crowd to let a hundred people enter and watch. The army started negotiating with them from four people. "Bahinipati Manoj Thapa and the general manager of the airport decided that four people can be shown VVIP inside the skirting of the army," said an officer who participated in the meeting, "but they maintained that only 100 people should be allowed to go." Slogans were also going on against the Prime Minister. Later they agreed to send not 4 but 10 people to look inside.'

The army escorted 10 people to the airport . Others were engaged in sloganeering at the Golden Gate. At that time, protesters were added from the direction of Gaushala, shouting slogans in a mini truck. To those ten protestors, the army showed the VIP/VVIP empty room and check-in counter at the entrance of the airport terminal building. But they were not satisfied with that. started to enter . Passengers stranded inside were lying on the floor with some bags as pillows. 9 out of 10 protestors came furiously. One of them was an older protester,'' said an official of the airport who was there at the time. After saying that the leaders are not staying here, they came back out after being convinced.'

At that time, there were two wide-body planes of Nepal Air Service and two narrow-body planes of Himalaya Airlines in the parking way. On the inside, two ATRs of Buddha were outside. All other aircraft were in the domestic airport parkingway . Those protestors made many attempts to go to the parkingway. Anything could have happened. They were furious. "However, after Colonel Pun warned me in a strong voice that if I go inside this circle now, I will leave," General Manager Pandey said.

The 10 people were returned by soldiers and police skirting the Golden Gate . They told the crowd that there are no more leaders among friends. The CCTV footage of the airport shows that the crowd at the main gate of the airport dispersed towards Gaushala and Tinkune at 7:30 after saying that the VIP room is empty.

Actually there was no leader at the airport that day . Instead, 60 Indian tourists who were supposed to go to Nepalgunj were stopped at the domestic terminal. Who came to Kathmandu from India and was going to Nepalgunj for the trip to Mansarovar. On the other hand, nearly 1 thousand passengers were stranded at the international airport. Most of them were Indian passengers. The news of the fire of the movement in Kathmandu had already spread all over the world .

Sources told Indian passengers not to go outside the airport by the embassy in Kathmandu. "Three employees of the embassy were assigned to protect them", the source said, "some of them were". Some were getting updates from phones. In the evening, they brought food packets and briefed passengers from India and other countries at the domestic and international terminals. There was no possibility to buy food/snacks as the coffee shop at the airport was closed . The drinking water was also finished . It was not possible to bring bottled water from outside.

Kathmandu Airport called on Tuesday evening to open cafes and hotels inside and outside for around 1,060 passengers. But the staff had returned to the camp by the afternoon. It was not possible to return to the airport.

After the movement of Gen-G which started on Monday, air traffic was already affected by the curfew the next day . The last flight on Monday was by Thai to Bangkok . On that day, due to fire and smoke towards Koteshwar, the Kathmandu airport flew Thai through the runway towards the north. Rumors that the leader escaped even in Thai, which was carrying regular passengers, were spread on social media . Thai issued a statement from Bangkok denying the rumours. On the other hand, Himalaya Airlines also had to issue a statement and refute it after it was accused of driving away the leader .

The airport, which was closed from Tuesday afternoon, was closed until Wednesday afternoon. Civil Aviation Authority Director General Pradeep Adhikari decided to open all airports including Kathmandu after the army increased surveillance on Wednesday. The army was asked to facilitate the passengers by showing the tickets. An Air India flight from Delhi landed in Kathmandu at 8 pm on Wednesday. 10 ships landed in Kathmandu that night, including the Himalayan ship that was stuck in Pokhara, and the corporation's Neurobody that was stopped in Hong Kong. Domestic flights could not be operated that evening.

Kathmandu airport was closed for 30 hours due to Zen-G's protest. The airport, which operates from 6 am to 12 pm on Thursday, was opened until 4 am on Thursday . The 60 Indian passengers who were stopped on the domestic side on Tuesday stayed at the domestic airport for two nights and flew out on the morning of the third day only on Thursday.

"Without firing a single bullet or tear gas, we saved the property of many people including passengers, shops, offices, ships, oil corporation depots, sentry posts, etc. inside the airport," a military officer of the army told Kantipur, "Not only that, the police did not even have to throw a stick." When the country was burning, we saved the airport in a smart way. All this was possible because all the office heads within the airport coordinated well.'
