The 'soldiers' who entered the bank 41 years ago to carry out the 'people's revolution'

On June 32, 2041, the incident of four people carrying gold and cash in four bags after capturing the bank is no less than a movie story based on a 'money heist'.

Exactly 41 years ago today, a bank was seized in Gulmi Purtighat and gold and cash were taken away in bags. The incident, which took place during the Panchayati regime when parties were banned, was motivated by political motives. Therefore, even though the incident that most people interested in Nepali politics have heard about and especially left-wing politics took place in Gulmi, it was prepared in Chitwan.

In order to revolutionize the ruling system envisioned by the Communists, the process of seizing banks and taking money became normal after the then CPN (Maoist) started an armed struggle, i.e., "People's War" in their language. But before the Maoists were born and nine years before they started armed struggle, money and gold were collected for the 'New People's Revolution' by seizing banks in Nepal .

On Sunday, 32nd June 2041, four people took over the bank and carried gold and cash in four bags. Among them, the bag containing gold carried by Amar Vishwakarma came into contact with the party. What happened to the other bag? And what did the party do after this incident? He had a day-long conversation with Amar Vishwakarma about the famous event of that time, 'Poortighat Bank Occupy'.

The party thought that 'to develop the revolution, to destroy the reactionary state system in the country and establish a state system for the starving people, financial collection should be done under the leadership of the Communist Party'. The central committee meeting of the party decided on what to do for that in 2040. Ambar Bahadur Vishwakarma will also enter the field to implement that decision. A team of fake police was prepared for that. Amar, who became a soldier by joining a seven-member team led by a fake police inspector, went ahead. If the fake police plan failed, the real police could have died. That's why the plan went ahead with great preparation and secrecy, says Amar.

'People's liberation army is needed to make a new democratic revolution in Nepal, training and weapons are also needed to create a people's liberation army. And to manage that thing, money is needed, so they decided to make financial efforts. So it wasn't really 'action'. Everything should have been understood. So training was given before going into action. Amar  is a resident of Labornagar, Chitwan. V.No. Born in Gulmi in 2017, Amar's parents moved from Chitwan to Lebarnagar in 2023. In the year 2041, he was 24 years old. Being a full-time worker of the party, he was organizing in Parvat district from home. The party dragged him to Chitwan in June 2041 for a special plan.

When he came to Chitwan, he went to South Madi instead of West Chitwan. From Madi also passing through South Magui River overnight the team reached Ankantar forest of Someshwar Hill and stayed there. There was 10 days of training. There was no need to ask people for donations to raise a large amount of money for the party. And there was a plan to take over the bank," Amar said. V.No. At the end of June 2041, the Nepal National Commercial Bank in Gulmi Purtighat was 'looted'. Yes, it included Amar . He specially requested that it should not be called "an ordinary incident, scandal or looting" because the party had worked according to the plan to raise financial resources for "people's war". As the conversation progressed, he repeated time and again that this was a 'purtighat money action'.

'Economic struggle is not what it is!' was his opinion . The proletarian labor organization party led by Rooplal Vishwakarma did this work. After the decision was taken to seize the bank and bring gold and money, the party conducted a long and detailed investigation on which bank to go to, how to go, what to go to," Amar said. There was a police station in Purtighat but it was reported that there were no weapons in the station. The day and the bank have been selected based on the fact that bank guards do not carry guns, the last day of the financial year, people do not come to do other transactions in the middle of June, and more money is collected. A script was prepared to enter the bank as a police team that came to investigate that a corruption complaint had been filed with the special police. And the team that goes into action based on this story trained in Madi's uncontorted jungle as in the play . Leader Rooplal himself gave the training. There was a big plan connected to the future of the

party . So it is said that there is no option of 100% success. On the day of completion of the training, everyone agreed on this. But something else was playing in Amar's mind. He said, "Can't you say that it will be 100 percent successful?" The situation can also be reversed . What to do in such a situation?' Hearing his words, other participants said, 'What a suspicious person has been brought!' There is no attempt to solve his query by understanding it thoroughly.

He was handed a bag that brought the wealth of the bank, telling him that it is going to take a party to make this plan successful. With four bags, Amar went to Gulmi with the team. Where did the party think the situation would be and ? All the bags full of gold and money that the team took out from the bank did not come back to the party . A bag carried by Amar instead reached the party . At that time, seven people entered the bank, wearing the gray uniforms worn by the police, wearing rank badges, caps and fake pistols. A guard with a khukuri on his waist saluted Fanindra Acharya who became an inspector. Not only the guard, but also the constable of the guard post came running and saluted. When they saw that the police were completely bent over, they thought that the plan had been confirmed.

The 'soldiers' who entered the bank 41 years ago to carry out the 'people's revolution' Amar Vishwakarma

After meeting with the manager inside the bank, he asked the team, 'Why did you come?' Amar said that Acharya replied that 'because the report of financial embezzlement in your bank has reached the special police, we have come to investigate'. After hearing that, the manager showed hospitality, 'what should I bring hot and cold?'  Acharya sneered and said that he did not need anything. Inspector Acharya was in the team of seven people who reached the bank, Tarapati Poudel was the SAI, and Sudarshan Pradhan was the constable. There were four soldiers including Amar, Dhaniram Chaudhary, Padam Chhetri and Rom Bahadur Basnet.

Four people including Acharya were also carrying fake weapons in their waists . One was a plain pistol but kept in a bag . The weapon is in the back of the bag. All this may be due to the management, the bank employees believed that the police had come. The staff started following the orders given by the team . Phanindra asked the manager to call the cashier.

When the cashier came, the manager asked him to show the account sheet . The cashier was showing the account sheet, Acharya said to show the cash and gold . The cashier also showed ease . By that time, the security guard was locked in one room and other staff including the manager in another room. Amar said that after opening the safe containing cash and valuables, the cashier was not allowed to close the safe and was taken to the room along with the staff and locked up. After that, Amr started to fill the bag with the cash and Jinsi of the open safe of the bank. At that time, the cashier came to the room with a safe. The members of the team killed him and took him to the previous room and locked him up. Perhaps it was a mistake, says Amar . The cashier got a chance to explain the condition of the room he saw to the manager and other employees. The plan was to complete all the work in just 15 minutes. But it took an hour and a half there .

However, they managed to get out after filling the four bags with bank cash and gold. Amar remembers that Acharya, who became an inspector, told the bank manager, "We are gone, after a week the special police department will come to Singhdarbar". Even after being ordered to come to Kathmandu, the team went ahead by locking the employees in the bank room. But the bank employees must have got the message that something is wrong. Inspector-turned Acharya is at the front and at the very back is Amar . Four people including Amar are carrying bags containing cash and gold withdrawn from the bank. There was a suspension bridge in the Kholsa behind Purtighat Bazar. After crossing the bridge, you should go down to the left. But Acharya took it straight away. Another mess added here .

The Acharya ordered to return after losing his way. Amar says that Sudarshan and Padam did not return even though others returned. Among the five people who returned, Amar saw Rom Bahadur running uphill with a bag. Three others had also reached across the bridge. In the middle of the bridge. ``Knock-knock, don't leave--don't leave'' Amar heard, the voice of a man coming from the side of the bank. Whatever was wished not to happen and doubted that it would happen, happened. In other words, when it was found that people were pretending to be the police, not from the special police, but to get cash and gold, the countermeasures started there . But Amar got up and went up . Phanindra had attached a pistol even though it was fake . People are afraid. This way it is easy to escape . They also had one pistol, but which one fell into the back of the bag, they didn't remember and pulled it out. Amar knew that Dhaniram was stuck in a stone and fell and that Fanindra and others were stopped.

Amar went ahead without stopping. It was half past four in the afternoon when they left the bank. It was not advisable to get confused because people were going to run for countermeasures . But Amar kept walking while hiding. He did not get anything from the three people including Phaindra . He hid himself seeing a bamboo stick in one place. Even at seven o'clock in the evening it was summer time. At such a time, instead of walking in the open, Amar thought it would be more appropriate to hide in the bamboo grove until nightfall. Amar heard that there was a rumor somewhere beyond the place where he was hiding . It is the team that is looking for the immortals. But they did not return to Zhang.

After being sure that they will not come, Amar opened the bag and looked . There were gold ornaments placed on it with a lacquer seal . He then vowed to save this bag at any cost to support the party's campaign . The night was getting darker . The crickets and the frogs began to croak . And Amar came out from the hiding place . While walking, he reached a field where rice had just been planted. ``Who is it?'' Amar was startled by this sudden voice. But he forgot the way, it was night, he asked where is the place to stay. That man came to water the paddy field . It was seen that there is no danger from him . He also showed us the place to stay . He walked quickly to the Setiveni market. But he saw a man coming from there with a torch, who was talking loudly about the events of the afternoon. Amar saw a great danger from them .

Amar looked to the right - the Kaligandaki river can be heard sighing below. Look to the left, there is a field of Kharbari . He was thinking when June was slightly in the sky . There was a strong possibility that he would be late because he had to go uphill towards Kharbari and that he would be seen by people who had lit firewood while walking there. So he dared to jump to the right . He went down three Kanlas and stopped. Those who come with the color are cut . Saying that the original path should not be taken anymore, he walked uphill holding straw and weeds. He was walking in the dark night when he reached a place where there was a little flat cornfield, at that time his sattoputla flew away . Unexpectedly, someone hugged her. Amar thought, 'Come on, he has been arrested.' Rom Bahadur Dharadhari started crying . And informed that three people including Phanindra were arrested near the bridge at that time . Rom Bahadur also expressed his suspicion that they were badly beaten and that one of his friends, Dhani Ram, had died. Dhaniram was carrying one of the four bags containing the cash and jewelery taken from the bank. In this way, Phanindra, Tarapati and Dhaniram, who were missing from the team, were not only arrested, but a bag containing money was also seized by the police and the bank. Amar got the news of three people including Phaindra. The party had made a plan that the team that entered the bank would take out only the cash and jewelry and hand over all the bags to another team of porters who were waiting outside. Rom Bahadur had handed over the bag to that team. But there is no chance for Amar to meet the porter team . Sudarshan and Padam also had a bag .

What happened to the bag Padam was carrying? Thinking about this, Amar and Rome went on their way . While hiding, they reached the house of Prem Chhetri alias Keshar of Syangja Jogimara village, the shelter of the party at seven o'clock in the morning of Sankranti. Amar entrusted the gold bag to him. The robbery at the bank in mid-June became a topic of national discussion. Dr. Chitwan professor of history. Rajendra Prasad Regmi writes in his book Ruplal Bishwakarma on Nepal's politics - "State-controlled newspapers published reports that cash and jewelery worth 23 lakh rupees were lost from the bank." Out of the four bags of money, only the gold bag carried by Amar reached the party. A bag was recovered by the police. What happened to the other two bags? This is also discussed in Rajendra Regmi's book. Amongst Sudarshan and Padam Chhetri, who were left out of the

team at the beginning, Padam was carrying a bag with money. They have claimed that they threw the bag in the Kaligandaki river while running away.  Similarly, what happened to the bag handed over by Rom Bahadur to the porter team? According to Regmi's book, "the bag carried by another police constable (fake) Rom Bahadur was handed over to the support team as per the pre-plan, but the support team also ran away leaving the head with the bag to save their lives," Regmi's book mentions. Although four bags of cash and jewelery were taken out of the bank, only the bag carried by Amar reached the party. That bag also reached the party leader Rooplal with various doubts.

Rooplal himself melted the gold and sold it in the market. Amar remembers that the party received 4 lakh 90 thousand rupees. With this amount, the party bought and operated a passenger bus. But the bus did not run properly. No money earned. In this way, the ``Purtighat Money Action'', which was made to raise funds to prepare for the new democratic revolution, got confused and deviated from its purpose since it left the bank. After the party of Nirmal Lama and Pushpa Kamal Dahal merged with Rooplal's proletarian labor organization, it became Nepal Communist Party (Ekta Kendra) in 2047 after the arrival of multi-party. But neither Dahal nor Rooplal stayed at that unity center . Rooplal later came to the conclusion that let's seriously analyze the world communist movement, the communist movement cannot move forward with the old style. Because of this, he was called an escapist. He did not stick to the Communist Party. Some even spread misinformation that he had joined the Congress. After the

, CPN was made Maoist. From February 1, 2052, Pushpa Kamal Dahal started an armed struggle in Nepal for the "new democratic system" thought by Rooplal in the 40s. After that, bank robberies became a common occurrence due to political motives. Joined in the beginning of the Communist Party in Chitwan, V.S. In the year 2028, Rooplal, who gave the membership of CPN Pushpalal Group to Pushpa Kamal Dahal, came out strongly in the party organization in Chitwan. Local struggles like Jugedi and Jutapani came into the limelight in national politics. The Purtighat incident brought him more into the limelight . However, the situation within the party was different.

Ruplal's political life was probably the peak of his political life when he united the party with leaders like Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Nirmal Lama, Baburam Bhattarai and formed the CPN Ekta Kendra. After the split in Ekta Kendra, he faded away . He died on May 19, 2058, the same day as the Rajdarbar massacre. Ruplal Vishwakarma book on politics of Nepal  Rajendra Regmi has written that Rooplal was like a talisman of the Communist Party in the 40s. Many who joined the

organization left Rooplal later in life . Amar Vishwakarma is still active in highlighting Rooplal's contribution. Before starting the Purtighat journey, he asked whether it would be 100% successful. While asking this question, the friends who looked at Amar suspiciously could neither save the bag nor stay with Rooplal . Amar, the fake policeman of that time, was actually Rooplal's true soldier.
