27-year-old Samina Banu of Surkhet Birendranagar-11 has been working as a 'Sales and Marketing Manager' at Shubh Hotel for two months. She used to work at Siddharth Hotel in Surkhet for one and a half years. She is the first woman manager to work in Siddharth, the only four-star hotel in Karnali. She is the first woman from Karnali province to reach the manager level of Tare Hotel.

"The participation of men from the Muslim community in Karnali's hotel business is zero," said Samina.

Karnali Province President of the Federation of Hoteliers Tarka Bahadur Shahi said that there is no other woman in the position of manager in the big hotels of Karnali. According to him, there are about seven thousand hotel businesses in Karnali. Her friend Sakiran Banu says that the story of her struggle to reach the leadership level of a big hotel growing up in a society where women are threatened without stepping out of the house is an inspiration for young women. Sakiran grew up watching Samina's struggles. She says that she and her sisters were inspired by the courage of their friends. ``She struggles even in situations like Samina and works hard on her behalf . She is our inspiration,' she said, 'Seeing her, we, sisters and daughters, have started to dream.' Along with studies, Samina was interested in sports. But Baama did not like sports. His family forbade him to participate in sports competitions outside the school. Once the teachers came to her house saying that they had to send her daughter to a sports competition organized outside the district. Finally, Samina's father was ready to send his daughter on the condition that the teacher should also be taken.

'I finally got permission to leave home after the teacher was approved to go with me,' said Samina, 'My neighbor's friend faced a more difficult problem.' No matter how much the family tried to stop her, she had a stubborn nature to do what she thought and leave. "I didn't like the situation where women were confined to the house and could not even speak," she said. They used to touch it while going to the well to draw water. She was resisting those who touched the stream . He did not have to experience such untouchability in school.

She remembers one incident. A teacher always teased him as 'Bano Bano'. They used to say, ``Hey boy, you have to be beaten.'' Calling others by their first name and calling themselves by their last name would annoy him . However, one day she scolded the teacher, "What are you trying to teach other students by using my surname?" From that day on, the teacher never dared to tease her.

Before reaching the age of 16, Samina's parents married her nephew Iqmail Salmani from Birendranagar Belghari. Samina, who used to go to school while she was in her parents' arms, was unable to step out of the house after marriage. "When wearing a kurta, I had to be scolded for showing my back," she said, "It was very easy at my parents' house." Having grown up in such an easy way, it started to be difficult for me to get married in the house I came from. The judge of the house was the father-in-law. He didn't let him set foot outside the house . He missed the exam . After that, he started growing slowly. She used to do what she couldn't read with her husband. Her husband was also unable to read. He used to work in a garage . Even the husband could not say anything before the father's decision . Samina was not educated.

She decided not to stay silent. And one day at home she said, 'Either let me read.' Otherwise I will leave your son.' The father-in-law didn't take that threat, but he didn't stop. And the father-in-law said, "If you want to leave the house, go". When you stay here, your temper won't work.' Then when Samina decided to leave the house, her husband stood by her . They left the house and started living in rented rooms. Finally she could read . She also passed SLC. Iqmail (husband) was happy after I passed. I couldn't read, you supported me to read . But we didn't have money, he sold the gold ring on his hand and enrolled me in class 11, she said.

According to Sakiran, from home  Samina, who started studying, was different from them. Even in Lawaikhwai, she did as she liked rather than family and society. Even if the Muslim community living in the mountains did not wear a burqa, they had to wear a kurta-salwar and a shawl on their head. She also rejected that belief. "She used to wear pants instead of a kurta-salwar," Sakiran says, "we also wanted to wear it, but we didn't have the same courage as her." When she left the house, she used to look at the village, village and neighborhood with negative eyes. After seeing him walking in pants and t-shirt often, the neighbor would tell him not to spoil his daughters . "When I walked wearing pants, I used to wonder why and how other people's children were spoiled," she said, "I didn't give up on myself when I didn't get a sensible answer." While studying in the 11th grade, she was thinking that she could get a job too.

"My husband also advised me to work in radio instead of being idle," she said, "If he didn't help me, it would have been very difficult for me to move forward." She got pregnant while working in FM . Then she quit her job. She told that her confidence increased a lot after working in FF for a short time .

After the child started growing up, she started working in a non-governmental organization called 'Asha Network'. That job made him speak, make decisions, and increase his confidence. After the work of the social organization was not sustainable, she learned the beauty parlour . Although the family did not stop the work of the office, the father and brother tried to stop the work of the beauty parlor. It was the understanding of the family that those who work in the parlor are not 'okay'. His father and brother got angry after he did not leave work. While working at a beauty parlor, her husband developed a brain tumor. "The days of my hard struggle have started again," she said, "We had to spend a lot of money on treatment for working all day long." She hurriedly took her husband to Kathmandu. Normal after the first surgery . She graduated in commerce while working in a beauty parlour.

About two years ago, the job of Marketing Manager was opened at Siddharth Hotel in Surkhet. She passed the interview and started working. She said that even though she had to work for 12-14 hours for the first three months, she was enjoying the hospitality work. This field felt very good. The best discipline here,' she said, 'on top of that, there is a marketing field where you meet new people . I am enjoying this job a lot.' After one and a half years of experience at Siddharth, he was called by another hotel Shubh in Surkhet as the marketing head. She has been working there for two months. It is not as easy for women to work in hotels as it is for men. She said that she had to face the discriminatory mentality along with the pressure to show by working.

'Sometimes you have to face discrimination . If they get jealous, male friends point the finger at the character. I have experienced such things sometimes," she said, "but I have a habit of resisting the injustice that I feel. Once I made someone apologize for something like this, I believe that it should be shown by working.'

She said that she had to face stereotypes in society rather than in her field of work. While working at FM, a male colleague had to go somewhere together on his bike. His neighbors saw that. She told her husband, "Samina is riding around on some guy's bike." Her husband said, "I sent her." What gave you a headache?' He said that he was working in a hotel . One day he had event management in two hotels . In the same series, she was moving from one hotel to another. Coincidentally, that day was 'Valentine's Day'. After leaving the hotel, she took an auto and reached home. The next day, someone said to the father, 'Your daughter was going in and out of the hotel, she didn't look good.' After hearing this, the father got angry. He reminded his father and sent it. Samina said that her father's view of her has changed now.

Especially when her husband was ill, her father Jibril Box was shocked after seeing the line of people who helped her. After that, he started looking at his daughter with respect, he said. So many people and organizations have known my daughter. "I have been doubting in vain," he said, "Now I am regretting seeing my daughter's struggle, hard work and her discipline." First of all, I wonder why I think he is wrong. Now I am proud of my daughter.''

Samina says that her mother, Rajion Bibi, has also started telling her that if she gets a job, her daughter will be strong. I feel most happy that my family has started to understand me. The society has started to understand, she said. She said that after reading and doing something, the people of the village started to understand that their daughter should be educated. Because of me, many people changed in the village society. He also started going to study,' said Samina.

Samina was unable to be happy about what she had done, and a mountain of sadness came in her life. When Siddharth started working at the hotel, her husband fell ill again. This year her husband got cancer. That is also the fourth stage of cancer . She was taken to Bhaktapur Cancer Hospital for treatment. After the second operation, both his eyes were closed . He was respected by everyone in the society. He was very keen to show Eqwal that people looked at him with respect. But didn't get it.

He just supported me to study and work. We spent the days of struggle together . But the fact that he didn't get to see people look at me with respect as a boss just keeps bothering me," she said. Iqval died a month ago . Sakina is still not overcome by the pain of not being able to save her husband. She says that her husband's support is the most in her life, from doing housework, seeing her daughter to going to the office. Her husband gave her many things in her life. Helped to dream. How many dreams have come true. Although not big, he still has some dreams. Become a good hotel manager. We want to build a house where mother and daughter live,' she said, 'I want to live a normal lifestyle, I don't have much ambition.' A simple life is to be lived.'

Her family, who were angry when she left the house, have now started telling Samina to go and do whatever happened. After the death of her husband, she did not go to the office for a few days . Her mother Rajion repeatedly said, "Don't sit in Peer now, daughter." You have to go to the office . There is still a lot to be done.'

There are one thousand families and eight thousand population of Muslim community in Surkhet alone. The leader of the Muslim community, Akbar Khan, said that the third generation of his community, who entered Birendranagar since 2016, is growing up. Muslim communities also live in Dailekh and Salyan of Karnali.
