The role of mother is not the least important in this journey of Mao Tse, a successful actor, film writer and director, from the theater journey that started in Pokhara to the cinema, to make an impression of his 'organic' acting. While tasting its success, Britain policy has led to family fragmentation. The British government provided facilities for the families of ex-Gurkha soldiers to go there. Mother came to the UK 12 years ago using the facility. Having lost his father Ganga Bahadur in 2065, he could not leave Nepal.

He was born in the then Hanspur Village Panchayat (now Rupa Rural Municipality-7 Syaklung) and his exact date of birth is not certain. Dhanmaya, who gave birth to four children, could not tell the date. The elder brother Mansubba said that the month of February was when Tiju was ripe, so it was established on February 20, 2032. 

Syaklung was a village in the hills, Talbensi in Rupatal Siran. We had to go up and down to get rice and straw from the valley. Mother used to go down to the fair. He looked at his mother and cried. ``Didi, dai, mother has just arrived in Hanglebangle, now she has arrived in Dharapani, now she has arrived in Thanti. Sometimes he would come to Tagaroner at exactly the right time,' he remembered, 'the brothers are shocked because he still remembers that his mother would come and sit on the floor and feed him milk.'

The elder brother Subba has passed away. There is a gap of 5 years with Myla Da Arjun who is now in Hong Kong. When he was a child, he took after Myla Dai a lot. The elder brother would escape by bowing down to his brother. He used to cry, shout and scream when he could not go with his brother. At that time, my mother used to remind me. Being the youngest son, he feels that he gets a little more affection from his mother. He ate only milk and ghee with rice for almost a long time. I did not have to eat with vegetables because of my mother's affection.

When he was 9-10 years old, the family moved to Talbensi. After passing SLC from Anandjyoti High School in Begnas, he joined Prithvi Narayan Campus in Pokhara. His formal acting journey also started from there. After starting to pay attention to drama, he stopped while studying for graduation. 

At that time, plays were produced in groups in Pokhara. There were many theater groups. He was in the long-lived theater group. Along with him, Pramila Tulachan, Lalsuba Gurung, Raju Yakacha, Prakash Sigdel, Omprakash Gurung, Rajiv Tulachan, Prakash Rana, Surya Achami, Meena Gurung gathered together and opened Dengjivi. There were no organized theaters to perform plays like now. The play should have been staged in Pokhara Chamber of Commerce and Industry or Pokhara Auditorium. 

Directed by Deepakman Udas and written by Pramila Tulachan, she first acted in the drama 'Parytyaag' in 048. The mother did not get the move. In 2051/52 he came first in an acting competition held at Jessie's Week. When I went to the village with the medal and certificate, my mother, father, village, neighborhood and relatives were happy. According to the Gurung tradition, he did 'Sai-Sai'. 'Kanda' directed by Udas was his first film. Later he wrote and directed his first film 'Achammai Bho'. Gurung's film 'Kripa', written and directed by him, received praise. He was seen in the music video of Karna Das' song 'Purano Dunga'. Later he appeared as the lead actor in a film of the same name under the direction of Rambabu Gurung. After that, he became established in mainstream films.

It was 7 years ago that his mother saw him act for the first time. The first play was staged after the opening of Pokhara theater to perform plays systematically, 'Sirumarani'. The play written by Sarubhakta and staged under the direction of Somnath Khanal was very popular. His mother along with a family member, Istmitra, a neighbor, went to see the play. She was happy to see her son's performance. After returning home, he asked, "Mom, do you understand the play?" The mother replied in a sarcastic manner, "Why don't you understand?" Only you understand the play?' After watching the play, she also supported Pokhara Theater financially. 

His mother never told him to be this, to be that, to do this, to do that. Manmouji left. "Why did my mother give me such freedom, the path I took was definitely not bad," he says, "but my mother didn't do anything to force me to do anything." Neither mother ever asked. "Probably because of the full belief that the path that the younger son is taking is not bad," he says, "He didn't need to do extensive research or understand what this area is like." His elder sister Pampha is the mother-in-law of 'Kabaddi' director Rambabu Gurung. Mother stays at Ram Babu's house when she returns from UK. After 'Kabaddi' became a hit, it was the time when Ram Babu connected his house and car. Seeing Rambabu sitting comfortably, mother once asked, 'You will also make a film, Rambabu will also make a film  Rambabu has such a house, such a car, you have nothing. Why?' 

He has no complaints about the field he has chosen, he is 100 percent happy. I have run a household from the area I want, on one hand I have a name, on the other I have respect. The kind of name we got, that's the wealth for us," he says, "I have received respect from so many places that today I feel that this is the wealth for me. We are going to work.' 

When people began to recognize him by appearing on the screen of the film, his mother also began to be known by the name of Mao Zedong. She has started to be honored as 'Mao Tse's mother' at the event in Britain. His mother is called when he fails to arrive when his film is released in Britain. You say that now I have gained respect because of your name. When he goes to the Nepalese shop on the way, he says that he got respect because of you,' he told what his mother said on the phone. 

His mother watched his film as much as it was on YouTube. She still reminds me not to play the poor, sad, villain role. He hesitates. He didn't ask directly, but after thinking about it, he guessed that it might be the movie that his mother liked, 'Purano Dunga'. He repeatedly requests his mother to return to Nepal. In winter, Nepali elderly people in UK return to Nepal. Two-three months ago, he also asked his mother to come to Nepal without returning. The mother replies that she will stay in Britain as long as she can. He said that as he was used to the same age group, lifestyle and environment in the UK, his mother fell ill as soon as she came to Nepal. 

We are also happy if I feel the same way. Mom should be happy. Mother is happy sitting there, having fun with Damli,' he says.

Although the British government made an easy  environment for the Bhupu Gurkha soldiers, they did not give their children the right to go easily. He says that because of that, there is division in the joint family of Nepal. Even though they wanted to go with their parents, they had to stay away from their families when their children could not go because of the process. 

``My mother, relatives also told me to come, everyone has already come. Even at that time, I was saying that I am not going to come as I am here, doing the work I am doing," he said, "Mom is now convinced. Britain has its own problems. By opening that kind of door to so many Nepalis, more Nepalis will reach. There may be a problem. However, the separation of mother, son, father is heartbreaking. Not only me, many Bhupu soldiers' children have problems.' 

Father was colorful, mother introverted. He has never seen his mother dance or sing. Father was a bit strict, mother was moody. The mother never knew that she had scolded her children. When the father was happy, he used to tease his mother by saying 'O Dayarani Ngolsyo'. He later made a film with the same name, 'Dayarani'. 

Before he was born, his father Ganga Bahadur had retired from the British army and returned. His father's reed worked on his return without serving a full term. Father was also one of the troops sent by Britain to defeat communist rebels in the Indonesian civil war. Even killing some enemies. Someone else got the medal when it should have. Disappointment prevailed, thinking that there would be politics in the army as well. Father had made up his mind to come with his name cut off, but Dal Bahadur Gurung 'Saheb' sent him with a pension. 

After coming to Nepal, Ganga Bahadur never said that his son should be recruited. Instead, he asked to live by farming. Why did he name his son after the Chinese communist leader who fought against communist rebels in Indonesia? "I did not fight the communists willingly. The British government sent them to fight. At that time, he heard about Mao Zedong when he was living in Hong Kong and Malaya,'' said Mao Zedong. However, how can you be like Mao Zedong when naming a name?''The mother did not disagree with the name given by the father.

It was difficult to rent a room in Pokhara and take studies and acting together. He had no income of his own. Had to depend on the family. What mother did at that time, it is impossible to explain. At that time, it was the mother who created an environment for studying and learning drama while staying in Pokhara. "A lot of credit goes to the mother for making the financial progress. If the financial problems were not solved, it would not have been easy to enter this field,' he says, 'I would not have been able to do it if I had to ask my father for money.'

He has visited many places in Nepal in the course of filming. The mother, who had not left the house much before, came to Britain at once. Now his mother has taken a long leave and he wants to visit Nepal. He says, 'Nepal is also like this, there is a desire to take it to the east, Himal Madhesh, many places.'

He has acted in 15-16 plays and more than 40 films. The movie 'Anjila' starring him will be released from February 26.
