Jone Chamling Rai has won the Best Playback Singer award at the 8th Xtreme Energy Radio Kantipur National Music Awards 2082.

Rai received the award for the song ‘Maya Garnu La’ during Radio Kantipur’s 28th anniversary celebration held at Plaza in Pulchowk on Friday.

Along with him, the nominees for Best Playback Singer included Sharad Humagain for ‘Chahindaina Mahar’, Sairaj Khati for ‘Timro Malai Huni Man Chha’, Ketan Kshetri for ‘Dherai Bhayo’, and Pushpan Pradhan for ‘Kagazko Khosto’.

Rai is an emerging artist in Nepali easy listening music. Hailing from Dharan, he was interested in music since his school days. He used to post his singing videos on social media, which is how he became known among listeners. His formal musical journey began with the release of his debut song ‘Prashna’ in 2020.

He has released popular songs through his band ‘Jone and the Locals’. ‘Ko Chha Ra’, ‘Parkhirahechhu’, ‘Nihit’, and ‘Hawa Jastai’ are among his well-known songs. Songs like ‘Sadhana’, ‘Farkanna Hola’, ‘Ke Garu’, ‘Bhan Na Matra’, ‘Bhagyamani Moh’, and the recent hit ‘Maya Garnu La’ have further increased his popularity.
