Alia Bhatt starrer spy thriller 'Alpha' has had an unexpectedly slow start on its first day of release. The film, which was said to be made on an estimated budget of Rs 130 crore, failed to earn even Rs 10 crore on Friday. This is the weakest opening among the spy universe films made under the Yash Raj Films (YRF) banner. After 'Ek Tha Tiger' (2012), 'Tiger Zinda Hai' (2017) and 'War' (2019), Yash Raj Films had brought 'Pathan' (2023) with the concept of the spy universe.

Enthusiastic after the commercial success of 'War', which came in the form of a jugalbandi starring Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff, its director Siddharth Anand and producer Aditya Chopra agreed to work on the concept of the spy universe. Yash Raj, which brought 'War 2' as the sixth installment last year, is at risk of being hit by 'Alpha'. Looking at the opening business trend of the film, it seems that the audience did not like 'Lady Spy' in the lead role. Sharvari Wagh has supported Alia in the lead role of 'Alpha'.

Ever since the trailer of the film was released, it was said that the audience's interest in 'Alpha' was high. But whether this will translate into box office results or not has become a matter of interest. This film, which was released in about 7,534 shows across India, has reportedly had only 10 percent occupancy (audience pressure) in the morning show. From which the film earned only 9 crores on the first day, the box office report states. Similarly, the overseas market of the film has not been active either.

It is believed that the ongoing FIFA World Cup may have affected the business of 'Alpha', which earned 16 crores on the first day of its release, despite reaching the global collection of 16 crores on the first day of its release. In addition, the audience who watched the film did not want to praise the film openly. With the weak word of mouth, 'Alpha' cannot be expected to do much business. Although the action of the film has received some praise, the audience says that the story/screenplay is weak. It seems to have received only fair reviews in the media.

Among the 7 films in Yash Raj Films' Spy Universe, 'Alpha' starring Alia-Sharvari has done the most disappointing business on its first day. While the previous lowest-grossing Spy Universe film of the same banner, 'Ek Tha Tiger', had done business of Rs 33 crore on its first day 14 years ago. After that, 'Tiger Zinda Hai' had done business of Rs 34 crore, 'Tiger 3' had done business of Rs 445 crore, 'War 2' had done business of Rs 52 crore, 'War' had done business of Rs 533 crore and 'Pathan' had done business of Rs 57 crore.
