President Ram Chandra Poudel has said that the film sector is not only a medium of entertainment but also an effective mechanism for awakening, social transformation and patriotism among citizens. Expressing his views at a program organized on Friday, he mentioned that the film sector's role is important in preserving the original language, culture and traditions. President Poudel said that films will act as a bridge to introduce the natural beauty and social life of Nepal's mountains, hills and Terai to the world stage.

Pointing out the need for policy and legal reforms in line with the changing environment, the President stressed that the government should provide necessary facilities and concessions to take the film industry to new heights. Stating that Nepali films are also contributing to the country's economy, he said that the attention of stakeholders should be paid to further strengthening this sector. He said that an environment should be created in this sector where artists and technicians feel secure and self-respected for their future.

'Cinema is the basis for building our common identity.' Although the development of technology has brought ease from production to distribution, it is necessary to be aware of the protection of our original story, cultural identity and the intellectual rights of the creator while using it. When every Nepali sees his story and reflection on the screen of a movie, only then does a movie become national in the true sense,' he said.

Discussing the context of Nepali originality, President Poudel expressed his belief that if the stories of villages and corners of the country can be brought to the screen in a subtle way, Nepali movies can make a unique identity in international festivals and the global market. For this, he suggested that filmmakers should focus on study, research and creativity.

Similarly, President Poudel emphasized that the representation of women, children, Dalits, indigenous peoples, Madhesis, people with disabilities and communities from different geographies should be respectful and realistic on the screen of movies.
