After leaving the film ‘Don 3’, its lead actor Ranveer Singh is set to be boycotted by an organization with 4 lakh members in the Indian film industry. Ranveer was signed as the lead actor for the third film in the ‘Don’ franchise, which is scheduled to be released in 2023 and written and directed by Farhan Akhtar. But the controversy has reached a peak after he pulled out of the film, which is in the final stages of filming, citing ‘creative differences’.
‘Don 3’ producers Farhan and Ritesh Sidhwani had jointly filed a complaint against the actor with the Indian Film and Television Directors’ Association. The complaint, filed by the producers, alleging that the actor had suffered financial and mental damage after he abruptly left the film, was forwarded by the directors’ organization to the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE).
FWICE has said that it has been forced to decide on the boycott after repeatedly calling on actor Singh to hold talks to resolve the issue, but there has been no response. The federation, which has more than four lakh filmmakers, technicians, employees and artists working in films and television across the country, decided on Monday that its members will not work with the actor.
After the federation's latest decision, actor Singh's spokesperson issued a statement saying, "Ranveer Singh has considered it appropriate to remain silent about the developments surrounding the film Don 3, because it would be appropriate to take a sensible decision keeping in mind the seriousness of the professional and personal relationship, maturity and mutual respect." Actor Singh has said that despite various speculations and statements in the controversy surrounding the developments, he is committed to his work.
Farhan's production company Excel Entertainment has said that around Rs 45 crore has been spent on the pre-production of 'Don 3' so far and that the actor should be compensated for leaving the project. Some media outlets have claimed that actor Singh may have left after he was not satisfied with the script of the film. Earlier, Ranbir himself had accused Farhan of trying to bring Hrithik Roshan in the film. But later, with the success of 'Dhurandhar', he left 'Don 3'.
Federation president BN Tiwari also said that the decision was an attempt to send a message that no superstar is above the law in the Indian film industry. "Until he comes to us personally and participates in the discussion, our federation will continue to disassociate him." "Ranveer left the film just three weeks before the film was to go on the floors for shooting," said Ashok Pandit, the federation's chief advisor. "We also heard from the filmmakers, the producers have already spent more than Rs 45 crore on hotel arrangements for more than 200 actors and technicians, foreign travel and location selection."
