The historical film 'Numaphung', which started a new trend of original and realistic storytelling in the Nepali film industry, has completed 25 years of its release.
On the occasion of its silver jubilee, the production company 'Menchayem Pictures' has issued a press release, recalling the film's historical journey and its contribution to Nepali cinema.
'Numaphung', which was released 25 years ago, gave a new twist to the Nepali cinema world, which was then mired in commercial formulas. The film was particularly successful in winning the hearts of the audience and critics by presenting traditional and original Nepali stories on screen.
The statement said, ‘Today, as we celebrate the silver jubilee of this historic film, we are celebrating not just a film, but a movement and a work of art that changed Nepali cinema forever.’
‘Numaphung’ is considered to have brought the lives, culture and voices of marginalized and indigenous communities to the mainstream screen for the first time in Nepali cinema. The film played a significant role in establishing the identity of Nepali cinema on the world stage by taking Nepali storytelling to various international film festivals. The production team believes that the film taught the audience to be proud of their identity, culture and truth. ‘Numaphung is not just a relic of the past, it is still alive in every heart that feels its power and will remain for generations,’ the statement said.
Based on the story 'Karobar Ki Gharbar' by Kajiman Kandangwa, this film is directed and scripted by director Naveen Subba. The film stars Prem Subba, Anupama Subba, Niwahangma Limbu, the late Alok Nemwang and Ramesh Singhak in the lead roles.
On the occasion of the Silver Jubilee, the production team has expressed its heartfelt gratitude to the visionary filmmakers, artists, technical team and the general audience who have kept its legacy alive for the past 25 years.
