Recently, Karnali topics have started appearing in Nepali films. From Madhesh, Karnali topics are rarely included in Nepali films. In such a situation, it is positive for Nepali films to include Karnali topics.
In that sense, considering the need for a debate on the topic of Karnali in films, an interaction program on the topic 'Kali-Karnali in Films' has been completed. The problems and possibilities of film production in Kali-Karnali were discussed in two phases at the Film Development Board hall on Monday.
In this interaction organized by Everest Gallery in collaboration with the Film Development Board, the possibilities and participation of the Far West and Karnali provinces in films, as well as their natural, cultural and historical themes, were discussed.
Jorayal Rural Municipality Chairman Durga Dutta Ojha, Film Association Chairman Narendra Maharjan, Raj Bahadur Sane, Sushil Pokharel, Karnali Film Festival Chairman and filmmaker Chakra Bahadur Chand were among those who participated in the discussion.
In the debate titled ‘Kali Karnali in Film: How Much Has Been Included, How Much Has Been Left Out?’, director Laxman Sunar, president of the Film Artists Association Mohan Niraula, president of the Film Directors Society Janakdeep Parajuli, and filmmaker and entrepreneur Devendra Bajgain shared their views.
They expressed the view that attention should be paid to issues such as the investment required for filming in the Karnali region, local language, and costumes. ‘Bulaki’ director Laxman Sunar said that despite the many stories of Kali/Karnali, making a film is a challenge due to lack of investment.
Film Development Board Chairman and Director Dinesh DC, MPs Gyanendra Shahi, Ain Mahar, Vasana Thapa, and actor Deepak Raj Giri participated in the second round of discussions. In this, policy issues related to films, proposed bills, natural beauty of the Kali-Karnali region, linguistic and cultural diversity, and possibilities of filming were discussed.
The program, which was held under the chief hospitality of Board Chairman DC, was attended by Director Madhavraj Kharel, Managing Director of Everest Gallery and artists Sanam Kathayat, Sesame Limbu, and others.
