Deepak Rauniyar's 'Rajaganj: Pooja Sir' has won the Best International Film Award at the Nepal International Film Festival (NIFF). The film has won a trophy and a prize of 1,500 US dollars. In Rauniyar's absence, director Ganeshdev Pandey collected the award.
'Gunyucholo: The Dress' dominated the awards ceremony held at the Civil Mall in Sundhara, Kathmandu on Monday. The film, directed by Samundra Bhatt, won the Best National Film Award. The production team won 1,000 US dollars as an honorarium. The production team, including director Bhatt, took to the stage to collect the award. Director Bhatt won the Best Director award for this film. Nazir Hussain has been declared the Best Actor for this film. Suraksha Panta collected the award for Actress for 'Koshedhunga'.
Dipendra Gauchan won the National Award for Best Screenplay for ‘Keti Beruthika Sonacha’, while Babu Shrestha won the Best Cinematographer award for ‘Koshedhunga’.
The Indian film ‘Jar’ in Nepali was declared the best in the South Asian category. Directed by Phurba Tshering Lama, this film received a trophy and five hundred US dollars. The Best International Documentary award went to Iceland’s ‘Ground Beneath Our Feet’, while ‘Sip’ won the Best International Short Film award. Similarly, the Best AI Themed Short Film award went to ‘Spirit of the Mountain’. The film received five hundred US dollars along with the trophy. This film, directed by Pang Jia, is a Chinese short film.
Similarly, the Best Student Film award went to Mexico’s ‘Passarinho’. The film received $500 and a trophy in the award. Deepak Choden Lama's 'Home is Not a Place' won the award for Best National Documentary, while Suraj Poudel's 'Rihanna' was declared the Best National Short Film. These two films received Rs 50,000 along with the trophy.
Don Quixote The Iranian film 'My Daughter's Hair' won the award for Best International Film. Ngima Gelu Sherpa's 'As Day Goes By' won the Special Mention for National Documentary. India's 'Housekeeper' won the award for International Short Film. The Special Jury Mention for International Film Award went to the Chinese film 'The Shore of Life'.
Naradamani Hartamchhali, Chancellor of Nepal Academy of Fine Arts, was present as the chief guest at the award ceremony. Other filmmakers including Deepak Raj Giri, Pradeep Bhattarai, Abiral Thapa, Arjun Kumar and others were present.
While sharing the stage with director Tulsi Ghimire, Hartamchhali recalled the days when he acted in Balidan and opined that Nepali creations have now become ‘global’ instead of ‘local’. ‘Truly, we are becoming global while being local, central.’ Such a festival has brought the global to the local,’ Hartamchhali said at the event.
