The teaser of director Nitesh Tiwari's film 'Ramayanam' was released on Thursday.
The teaser gives us a glimpse of actor Ranbir Kapoor in the role of the mythological character Ram for the first time. The film stars Sai Pallavi in the role of Sita, Sunny Deol as Hanuman, South Indian star Yash as Ravana and Ravi Dubey as Laxman.
While the discussion on 'Ramayanam' is going on, we are also reminded of the veteran actor in the history of Indian cinema, who successfully played the roles of both Ram and Ravana on screen.
The late actor NT Rama Rao (NTR), considered a legend of Telugu cinema, brought these two opposite characters to life not only once but many times. Apart from being an actor, he was also known as a director, producer, writer and editor, and he set a record by playing the role of Lord Krishna at least 17 times.
NTR played the role of Ravana in many films like 'Bhukailas' in 1958, 'Sita Ram Kalyanam' in 1961 and 'Brahmarshi Vishwamitra' in 1991. What is more special is that in films like 'Shri Krishna Satya' and 'Shri Ram Pattabhishekam', he created history by playing the roles of both Ram and Ravana. In 'Shri Krishna Satya', he played all three lead roles, Ram, Ravana and Krishna, a feat that no other actor has been able to repeat till date.
NTR's legacy has also been followed by his grandson and current superstar Junior NTR.
Junior NTR started his acting journey as a child artist in 'Brahmarshi Vishwamitra' in 1991 by playing the role of Bharat. He then played the lead role of Lord Ram in the 1997 film 'Ramayanam' (Children's Ramayana).
The film, which featured only about 3,000 child actors, won India's prestigious National Award as well as two Nandi Awards.
