Popular musician-lyricist and singer Chandan Lomjel from Darjeeling has been awarded the prestigious 'Bangavibhushan' award.

The award, which will be presented by the West Bengal government, was presented to the creator Lamjel by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at a special function organized in Kolkata on the occasion of International Mother Language Day on Saturday.

Lomjel has been making a musical contribution to Darjeeling and the surrounding areas through Nepali songs and music for a long time. His role in preserving cultural identity and mother tongue is considered significant. In appreciation of that contribution, the state government has honored him with this year's Bangavibhushan.

This year, Parambrata Chatterjee, singer Monogya Mahacharya, Raghav Chatterjee, Rupankar Bagchi and other artists and creators have also been honored.

After receiving the award, Lomjel expressed his gratitude to the state government and pledged to continue promoting Nepali language, literature and music. Lamjel's family is active in the field of singing and music. Mrs. Daisy Bareilly is a famous singer. Daughter Bimochana and son are also struggling in singing.
