The Central Film Censorship Board has implemented a film classification procedure keeping in mind the mental health of children and adolescents, which has been supported by filmmakers.
What you should know
The Film Censor Board has introduced new procedures, amending the 'Film Censorship Procedures, 2082', which was implemented from December 2. Following strong opposition from filmmakers, the board has introduced new procedures titled 'Film Censorship and Classification Procedures, 2082'.
This procedure has been introduced with the aim of classifying films rather than cutting them. ‘The committee shall classify the film according to the age group of the audience, taking into account the content, dialogue, scenes and the mental health of children and adolescents, including violence, sex, nudity, drugs, language, context of the story, purpose and main theme of the story, and issue a certificate with the following logo for public screening,’ the procedure states in point number 5 of the procedure.
Filmmakers who had previously suggested amending the procedure have now expressed their support for this procedure. ‘We, all the concerned film workers, express our positive support for the Film Censorship and Classification Procedure 2082 issued by the Central Film Censorship Committee under the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology on Magh 1, 2082,’ the statement made public by the concerned group states.
Filmmakers who have suggested the previous procedure include Navin Subba, Khagendra Lamichhane, Manoj Pandit, Dipendra K Khanal, Nischal Basnet, Raunak Bikram Kandel, Rabindra Singh Baniya, Janakdeep Parajuli, and Sarendra Thapa.
According to board member Kuber Giri, this procedure has been brought to be implemented from Poush 30. The procedure has not yet been made public on the board's website. According to Giri, this procedure will be placed on the website from Magh 2.
