The Film Development Board has expressed its condolences over the untimely death of Nepali singer and actor Prashant Tamang at the age of 43.

The board issued a condolence statement on Monday, stating that Tamang's death has shocked and saddened the entire Nepali art, music and film industry.

A statement issued by Chairman Dinesh DC said that Tamang, who struggled from a humble background to establish Nepali identity on the international stage, is a symbol of inspiration for the Nepali-speaking community.

Prashant has made significant contributions in acting and playback singing through films including 'Gorkha Paltan', 'Aangalo Yo Mayako', 'Kin Mayama', 'Nishani', 'Pardeshi', 'Pardeshi-2'. Prashant is also the winner of Indian Idol Season 3.

‘Prasant Tamang’s contribution to the campaign to promote the Nepali language, spread Nepali culture and establish Nepali cinema at the international level will remain incomparable and unforgettable,’ the statement said. ‘His voice, acting and life story of struggle will always remain a source of inspiration for future generations of artists.’

Born in Darjeeling, Tamang had been living in Delhi for the last few days. He passed away on Sunday morning due to a heart attack.
