A crowd of well-wishers, from politicians to politicians, has gathered to pay their last respects to singer and actor Prashant Tamang after his mortal remains were taken to his birthplace Darjeeling on Monday. His mortal remains are currently being kept at the Information and Culture Department in Darjeeling for final tributes.

Leaders and musicians including Darjeeling Lok Sabha MP Raju Bista have reached Darjeeling to participate in the funeral procession that began after the mortal remains of Prashant Tamang arrived at Bagdogra Airport. 

Remembering Tamang as a 'symbol of Gorkha youth', MP Bista said that his melodious voice, humility and simplicity won the hearts of listeners around the world. He said that Prashant, rising from the hills of Darjeeling, took the hopes and aspirations of the Gorkha community to the world stage and became a matter of immense pride for the region. Meanwhile, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has expressed her condolences to the late singer Tamang through social media X. She wrote,  'The sudden and untimely demise of Prashant Tamang, a nationally renowned artist, famous for Indian Idol, has saddened us. He was beloved by all of us across Bengal for his deep connection to the Darjeeling hills and his one-time association with the Kolkata Police. My heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and countless admirers.’
