Who designs thumbnails for popular content on YouTube

From YouTubers to content creators, Vipsan's artistic work has influenced everyone. The thumbnail of the video for the song ”Jun Naheri” by singers Wangden Sherpa and Sushant Ghimire was drawn by Vipsan. Be it rapper Mr. D's ”Kaladhara” released two weeks ago or Kushal Pokharel's ”Paisa”. Kushal and Mr. D are regular ”clients” of Vipsan. They remember Vipsan as soon as new content comes out.

How to make a thumbnail that automatically compels the user to 'click' before entering the YouTube content? 20-year-old Bipsan Nepali from Dang ponders this every day. He downloads the beautiful design he has in mind onto his laptop. And then he adds beauty to the content.

From YouTubers to content creators, his artistic work has influenced everyone. The thumbnail of the video of singers Wangden Sherpa and Sushant Ghimire's 'Jun Naheri' was drawn by the same Bipsan. Be it rapper Mr. D's 'Kaladhara' released two weeks ago or Kushal Pokharel's 'Paisa'. Kushal and Mr. D are regular 'clients' of Bipsan. They remember Bipsan as soon as new content comes out.

At one time, Bipsan thought, 'For work and career, should I go to Kathmandu or abroad?' But in the world changed by the internet, he did not have to go anywhere. Living in Dang, he is working abroad. Most of his clients are either from Kathmandu or outside Nepal. When Nepali singers perform abroad, he designs posters. The only time he has left is to go to college in the morning and the gym in the evening. ‘Other than that, I am so busy that I don’t have time to go out,’ says Vipson.

He also works part-time for a music company. The money Vipson earns by doing all this, his experience tells him, ‘If you have the ability, you don’t have to go out to earn.’ Born in Deukhuri, Vipson is currently living in Ghorai. He is currently studying in the fifth semester of CSIT.

An old laptop is always in front of his eyes on his ‘work station’. Showing it, Vipson says, ‘No matter how old it is, I always keep this laptop in front of me.’ That is Vipson’s father’s laptop. The laptop with which he started his artistic journey. Vipson was in 6th/7th grade. He used to take photos from his mobile. He used to edit them using various tools on his phone. He saw Photoshop on his father’s laptop. ‘There were no features. But I still worked smartly,’ he says. He used to learn new things by watching

YouTube. His designs would run on his laptop from the time he came home from school till night. Vipson would post those designs on Facebook and Instagram. ‘Even now, if you search, you can find those designs on Facebook and Instagram,’ says Vipson. Time passed as his grades increased. He reached 12th grade. One day, his eyes fell on a post. Recalling that post, Vipson says, ‘A man was holding a MacBook box in his hand.’ That post was posted by NEB. There, it was discussed that a young man would earn millions by making thumbnails. That young man was Nischal Bannet. He was a brother I already knew.’

In fact, Nischal had asked Vipson for design tips three years ago. Vipson was teaching him what he knew. After 3 years, Nischal had become so busy that he had started designing thumbnails for famous YouTubers outside the country. The MacBook seen in the photo was gifted to Nischal by a famous YouTuber from India, Trigad Insan. ‘This is how you can earn money,’ Vipson thought for the first time.

Bipsan's excitement started . He also wanted to continue the lost desire . At first, he made a thumbnail of Kushal Pokharel's old video  and watched . He sent that thumbnail to Kushal . Kushal did not read his message for many days . Bipsan requested Jay Khatiwada, who had a good relationship with Kushal, through a message . Jay also requested Kushal, 'Let me give that brother a chance .'

Then Kushal himself messaged Bipsan . Kushal was bringing 'Trap Star 2' . He gave Bipsan a job to design a thumbnail . Bipsan was overjoyed . He happily completed the first job . Kushal liked Bipsan's skillful work . He gave Bipsan one thousand as remuneration . That one thousand was the first earnings of Vipan's life. Two weeks before that, he had told his parents at home, describing the work, 'You can earn money this way too.' They did not believe him. Instead, they had reminded him, 'Don't do unnecessary work. Study hard and well.' So he gave half of his first earnings to his parents. He fed the remaining five hundred to his friends.

After he enrolled in graduate school and paid the first semester's fee, he did not have to pay the remaining fees. After that, Vipan himself had started earning well. Vipan did the second job with Jerry Limbu. The third with Sajan Shrestha. After that, he started to enjoy work.

Two years ago, YouTubers and artists started getting arrested for promoting One X Bet. Due to the same fear, Vipsan's clients also went underground. After that, his work almost stopped. He became frustrated. He wandered. He still remembers the pain of suddenly stopping his fast-paced work. 'At that time, Phase 2 was over.' I thought, now I will focus on my studies,' says Vipsan. But this situation did not last long. After two months, his clients who had gone underground gradually started returning. Vipsan's work also gained momentum.

Vipsan learned more from the path he followed than what he studied in school and college. 'I learned a lot during my work.' What I never learned even after studying,’ Vipsan feels, ‘I never said no to any project . No matter how difficult it was, I kept learning . It turned out well .’

How much does his work cost ? Earlier, it was difficult for Vipsan to set a price . Now, he sets the price of his work himself . His ‘rate’ is higher for music video work than others . When he is very busy, he distributes work to freelance friends . Because of new learnings and hopes every day, Vipsan has envisioned his future in this work . ‘I am thinking of going through a company with two or four designers instead of alone . I am also planning to take on film projects in the future,’ Vipsan says confidently .
