Not an 'anthem', but a warning - 'Kalila Shrestha'

What you should know

Singer Sajjan Raj Vaidya released a song titled 'Sasto Mutu' three years ago, talking about expensive love, implying that a lover's heart is cheap. He sang a misogynistic song, saying that he did not understand the love he had to earn day by day, the love he had to offer above his head, and that he had not received pure love from the same lover he considered a queen, except for the twisted things.

A female-voiced reply version of this song, which was liked by millions of viewers in the short time it was posted on YouTube, was released exactly 17 days after the song was released. The voice that replied to the doctor who sang the song "Cheap Heart" saying that love should not be shown on the head, that love should not be asked for, that love should not be sold has no value was "Love is not cheap but expensive".

The same Monica who attacked misogynistic music has now become the representative voice of the Gen-G rebellion. The song "Kalila Shrestha " sung by her is now becoming the collective voice of the Gen-G rebellion and is echoing on social media. The Gen-Gs are making a video on the part of this song that was released on YouTube 2 weeks ago, warning those in power and authority. They are asking questions by borrowing the words of Monica's song so that they will not forget the sacrifice of the Gen-G who were killed in the movement.

Pierce the young chest

Again, let it fall on us

Monica has asked those who are in the race to rule while forgetting the chest that was pierced in the movement, right from the beginning of the song. Therefore, the sentiment that one should remember that young chest before ruling, that sacrifice and anger should not be forgotten is found in two lines of the song. Now, using this same line, Gen-G has warned that the same style of rule should not be repeated by remembering those who were martyred in the movement from TikTok to Insta reels.

However, Monica did not think that this song would become the Gen-G 'anthem'. Monica had brought 'Kalila Chesta' as a trademark. After the Gen-G movement, when the same old faces started appearing, they started spreading 'hate speech' again amidst the normalization of daily life. They started accusing each other. However, Monica did not see the accountability in them that she was waiting for as a common citizen.

So Monica weaved the anger inside her into words and made a song. 'No shame, no fear.' Since they did not have that accountability, I felt - these people need to be scared. We should not forget all this so quickly, we should remind these people. I wrote the song saying that it is our responsibility. That is why this is the anger, the anger inside me,' said Monica.

Monica wanted to release this song soon. So she quickly released the acoustic version on YouTube. Monica released the song on her YouTube channel in about an hour. However, recording, mixing, and mastering took a few days. However, Monica ignored the views by putting the song on YouTube and TikTok. However, as soon as her close friends shared the clips of the song with her, she felt that the song was a hit. 'This song was also used in the Jhole trend.'

Jen-G used the song in this way to expose the negative aspects of others. When she saw that the song was used for the patriotism of the people by digging into the negative aspects of those who did wrong, I felt that the song was successful. For me, this is more success than the views of the song,' says Monica. Ever since Monica began to understand the unstable politics of the country, her distaste for it had been growing. However, she had not paid attention to releasing a song about it. The time after the Gen-G movement seemed like the right time for her to express the feelings she had been holding inside her. Monica didn't think that Gen-G would like the song to this extent. She just wanted to be a voice through the song, against those who forgot the rebellion. With that in mind, she wrote a few words, but with strong emotions. She sang the song in a simple style that everyone could easily sing. Monica wanted the line 'Cheder Kalila Shrestha Teklas, Hamimathi' to resonate. Monica wanted this song to be used to remind people that the movement should not be easily forgotten, and that Gen-G must be responsible for the sacrifice of the martyrs. That desire is now being remembered through TikTok videos and Instagram reels. Many have used the song's 'speech', 'discipline' clip to explain the Gen-G rebellion.

Speech, discipline

Not an 'anthem', but a warning - 'Kalila Shrestha'

Here in ration, discipline

Without me, who will worship you, asana

The lyrics of this song are as deep as they are, the singing is equally unique. On top of that, Monica's weighty voice measures that depth of the words. It elevates that feeling. The anger within the words is also expressed in the singing style. The more times Monica repeats the song, the higher the note of the song becomes.

The louder Monica's voice is heard at the highest point, the more that warning is heard. As Monica said, she sings the lyrics of the song in the style of a 'warning'. 'I must have been so analytical at that time. Maybe I had to sing on such a high note when I wrote it with that experience,' Monica added, 'Some people have used this song to remind people of corruption. I have even seen a video made with the photo of the Gen-G martyr.'

It is not long since Monica chose the field of art. It has been 3 years since Monica chose acting, music and storytelling. Before music, she used to act, she learned acting in theater. When Monica came to know that she was rejected in the audition given to become an actress, Monica started to discover her inner potential from that day.

That rejection made Monica search for her ability, strength and 'originality'. 'At that time, why am I trying to work on someone else's original, when I felt that I have the ability to bring out that original within myself . At that time, I felt that I should work on my own originality,' says Monica . So far, Monica has released three songs . Apart from writing songs and singing, Monica believes that acting and filmmaking are her fields . That is why she is in this work .

'I tell stories anyway . The medium I have chosen to tell stories is music and film . I am also learning film and music,' says Monica, 'I have been able to express myself fully through music . No one has control over it . I have found music to be the best medium to tell my story .'

Monica's art is also seen in this video of the song, which was released in collaboration with Skathi Entertainment. As she sings the words of rebellion in the song, the words of the song turn into red letters. And holding the guitar against a red background representing danger, fear, courage and bravery, Monica sings -

piercing the young chest
