The play, based on the story 'Kartavyama' by famous storyteller Guruprasad Mainali, was specially performed at the Narayani Kalamandir in Narayangadh on Sunday evening.

The audience will be able to watch the play there for three days starting Monday by purchasing tickets. The organizers plan to show students as much as possible about the ‘Duty’ included in the secondary school curriculum.

The growing conflict between brothers over ancestral property reaches the court. The story of Guru Prasad Mainali is about how brothers who lose the case forget about such family differences and fulfill their duty.

While transforming it into a play, the director has also mixed the culture and language of the Far West. Therefore, the play contains a different social environment than the story. The director of ‘Duty’, presented by Ojas Theater in Kathmandu, is Pushparaj Awasthi. The play was organized by the Tarang Natya Group of Chitwan in collaboration with the Narayani Kalamandir in Narayangadh.

The actors of ‘Kartavya’ include Rubin Sunar, Pradeep Bishwakarma, Anjana Dulal, Ujjwal Saipom Rai, Ayushma Joshi, Santosh Dhakal, Arjun Hang Rai and Tulsi Rai. Similarly, Mukesh Bishwakarma, Utsav Karki, Dhiren Karki, Sandhya Nepal and Mamta have also acted in ‘Kartavya’. The background music and occasional Far Western dialects are played in the play.

Bhuvan Dahal and Janak Tamrakar have voices in it. The music, culture and costumes have painted a picture of Far Western society. But the actors still need to work hard in acting. The Tarang Theatre Group is active in the campaign to make the stage lively in Chitwan.

‘We are trying to connect students, especially, to drama. "We believe that if students are able to see the subjects included in the curriculum in drama, it will not only enhance their interest in theater but also their reading skills and increase their knowledge," said Dev Shrestha, president of Tarang Drama Group.
