Active Nepali filmmakers have filed a complaint to review the decision of Nepal's Oscar selection committee, stopping the application of the film 'Anjila', which was recommended for the Oscar award this year. Jumbo group including filmmakers Deepak Rauniar, Samundra Bhatt, Vinod Paudel and others have submitted a complaint to the 'International Feature Film Committee' under the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and have also demanded 30 more days to submit a new application for Nepal.

We are stopping the application of the film Anjila recommended for the Oscars on behalf of Nepal, , We request you to review whether the selection committee of Nepal has followed the rules and instructions of the Academy or not, ,' is written in the complaint ,' We also request that the selection committee of Nepal open applications for films that want to enter the transparent competition . The country is experiencing a national crisis, curfew , arson on public property , The moment when the Prime Minister is resigning is not the right time for the competition, the members of the committee of Nepal and the filmmakers have submitted a complaint with the demand that they should be elected based on the decision they have made . Especially on October 2, the news came out that Nepal's Oscar selection committee recommended

' Anjila ' directed by Milan Chams for the Oscars . Along with that, director Samundra Bhatt to Deepak Rauniyar and others strongly opposed this decision. Because , within the time limit set by the committee, i.e. the year ' Anjila ' was screened, , Deepak and Samundra's film was also screened in the hall . Vinod Paudel's ' Bhuthan ' also ran at the same time. But , director Rauniar could not send ' Rajagunj ' for recommendation, as he did not get information about the , application. Only two films of directors Bhatt and Chams managed to apply for recommendations. Only 2 films to represent Nepal for such a prestigious award in the film sector, ? Even though questions were raised everywhere, the Oscar committee of Nepal tried to avoid the questions by saying that they had made a fair selection. Less time to fill the application

The committee allotted very little time to fill the application . Like

, On August 11, the committee opened the application saying that the films that were screened from October 15, 2081 to October 14, 2082 can apply. The committee has informed some media and film related organizations through email that the application has been opened. The last time to apply was - August 20 . Of course, if someone wanted to apply for Oscar recommendation, they should have given it within the said 9 days . But , filmmakers have raised questions about the intention of the committee saying that the application time is short and the committee has neglected to provide information about the application. ' In such a short time , Not informing about the application seems suspicious   . This means they didn't want other films to apply ,' Rauniyar asked. Director Dipendra Lama, who signed the complaint, also says that less time has been allotted for the application.

The committee did not publish the information. The news is nowhere to be seen . In particular, it is not enough to issue a notification, should also be taken into account whether the notification has reached the relevant filmmakers or not,' says director Dipendra Lama . In particular, earlier, the committee used to inform about the application not only to the organizations related to the film through email or media, but also to the filmmakers who have the possibility of reaching the Oscar. But , , this time the committee does not seem to have made the information accessible to the concerned filmmakers. The Film Development Board is giving information about the application by calling all the filmmakers released that year during the national award . Those who sit on the Oscar committee should have done this, ,' says Dipendra, , ', when sent to the Oscars, the Nepali film industry will not be discredited. For that, the selection committee had to gather knowledge by watching the films shortlisted for the Oscars every year. And they should have shortlisted which ones to send from Nepal and contacted the relevant filmmakers to apply. That's why this time's Oscar selection is objectionable. We did not sit quietly because no one came to apply. Film Development Board chairman Dinesh DC is also of the opinion that the committee should inform about the application about the filmmakers in time. The committee gave information through their Facebook and some media. But , the filmmakers related to or the production side of the film should have been informed about this early, president DC told

, "the filmmakers have already moved on to make another film." At that time, he may not have seen the notice of the committee. So they should have been informed about this. To say that the filmmakers did not know, it seems that the committee or the related organization did not provide the information. Director Naveen Subba says that even though the time of application is very short, the environment of film workers does not believe in the current decision.   was given a month's time before . There is very little time now. So it seems that there is some selfishness, ,' Subba said , 'it seems that the selection committee has not been able to earn the trust of the filmmakers . Prior to this, the Oscar selection had not come into controversy. ' According to Subba, last year

directed by him ' the way to the village ' the committee also asked him to apply . But at that time they spontaneously recite the subba that preceded the ' Shambala '  . ' is not only recommended for Oscars from here . A lot of work should be done for marketing, , lobbying. The film should be shown to as many voting members as possible. We didn't apply because we don't have that capability . At least that time the committee had access to us. But

, When listening to the filmmakers this time, it seems that the committee did not contact them, ,' said Subba.   Question on two members ? This time two members of the committee have been questioned. Like Jeevan Kumar Parajuli, the color journalist of the film selection committee. He is the media coordinator of ' Anjila ' film . The filmmakers have raised questions saying that there is a conflict of interest in recommending the film in which he is involved for Oscar. Chiranjeevi Guragai, the advance notice officer of the Film Development Board, who has been living in the US for a long time, has accused the film of evaluating it without watching it. Director Dipendra Lama argues that such a selection committee should have members who do not conflict with their interests. The person sitting in the committee should not be self-interested. It is not possible to evaluate the film that I am the producer by putting it in competition. Either I have to get out of the committee or not ?

Again, it is a problem to evaluate the film without watching it, director Lama says .

Saying that questioning the two members is justified, board chairman DC adds , ' In particular, there is a rule in awards around the world that the person of the related selection committee should not be involved with the film competing. We also choose the jury in the same way at the National Awards. Especially in this committee, Jeevan should have told ,' said DC. The argument of DC is that Guragai, who has been living in America for a long time, should not be kept in the committee. My opinion is that a person like Chiranjeevi, who has been living in America for a long time and has reached the citizenship process through green card, should not be placed in the committee. So I have advised to take a decision by removing the concerned person, DC said in a conversation with Kantipur. On the other hand, it has been mentioned in the complaint that the filmmakers who are in the selection committee are also not active. Manjukumar Shrestha , Lokendra Parajuli

' Kapil ', Gautam Dhimal , Jeevan Parajuli and Chiranjeevi Guragai are members   . vs.

Mal Paudel is the president of . ' Gunyocholo '   Director Samundra Bhatt demands that this committee be abolished. We have been raising our voices against two members of the committee. But , filmmakers here are also not active. No one in the committee is worthy of film evaluation ,' Samudra says , ' Our demand is that this committee should be abolished . If this committee happens, I am not even ready for a new competition. It is not only me but the decision of the filmmakers of Rajagunj and Bhutan . We will not have a problem with whoever chooses the film tomorrow, , . ' Director Rauniar argues that the current decision of the committee should be revoked . ' Our demand is clear the committee should cancel the current decision , open a new application , and make a decision after looking at all eligible films through a transparent process ,' Rauniyar said . director Dipendra Lama says that the Oscar Award should be sensitive to this matter as it looks at the aspect of inclusion not only in the competing films but also in the production team.

Their standards range from marginalized communities to the representation of gender and minorities. There is a rule that only films that meet the inclusion criteria can compete for Best Film. Even in the selection committee, they seem to have grasped the subject of inclusion . But , There is not a single woman in our selection committee, ,' Lama's analysis, , ' Brahman / Kshetri is more . Not inclusive. So now, while proceeding with the new selection process, the branch of inclusion had to be taken . ' Board Chairman DC says that in this situation, a solution should be found by discussing between the three parties .

' The filmmakers including Rauniar who could not send the film application , they and the committee and Anjila should discuss and find the source of this problem ,' he said .   Film Development Board decision of this dispute , or law-enforcement body, he has played the role of advice, he tells DC. Board Chairman DC was worried about the deterioration of the image of Nepali films at Oscars due to this kind of controversy. ' I am seeing that we will not be present at the Oscars because of this controversy . This seems to affect their view of Nepali films as well. This committee is to be blamed for that,

,' he said. Director Subba says that the filmmakers took the complaint route as the committee was not serious about resolving the dispute.   ' This controversy shows that the filmmakers have a lot of distrust on the committee. This weakness of the committee has tarnished the image of the Nepali film industry. This increases the possibility of mistrusting our industry internationally. Because of not doing that, the complaint went forward .
