In the seventh series of 'Susela Kavyashala', Susela Band has performed a musical program in honor of Gen-G Martyr.
On August 23rd and 24th, Susela remembered the martyrs who were killed in the anti-corruption movement by Gen-G youth-students through a musical program.
On Saturday (Oct 4), Susela performed four songs in memory of the martyrs as a tribute at the event held at Maitighar in Kathmandu. The famous poet Bhupi Sherchan's poem "In Memory of the Martyrs" was set to music and Pete Seeger's world famous song "We Shall Overcome" was also sung. The artists presented a song titled "That Police-Administration, That Court" written in favor of the
movement by poet Dev Vrat. Similarly, the song 'Tyo Jotaka Saathiko' written recently by poet Vinod Vikram KC was also sung in honor of the martyrs of the Zen-G movement. The
songs were performed by Anjan Babu, Aarti Bishta, Sabir Karki, Avinash Sharma, Biraj Dhungana, Shravan Gautam, Saurabh Dhakal and others from Susela band. In the
program, the paintings prepared by the artists of 'Studio 18' in honor of the solidarity and martyrdom of the Genji Movement were also exhibited. Artist Deepmala Maharjan coordinated the painting exhibition.
19 youths were martyred on the 23rd of August when the government suppressed the anti-corruption demonstration by Genji youths. Most of them were shot in the chest and head. In response to that, the government was changed by a huge demonstration held by the youth on August 24. 73 people have lost their lives in the protest.
The Susela group will continue to be active through artistic means to fulfill the demands of rebellion and the dreams of martyrs made by the youth for change, the band said.
