The struggle of the producer continues when the hall owner does not understand the film: Dipendra Lama

Actress Keki Adhikari waited for a long time for a box office hit. Because, her films, which established the identity of a great actress, did not hit the box office for a long time. Some tagged Keki as a 'successful actor of a failed film'.

That tag became heavy for Kiki. However, 'Chha Maya Chhapakkai' directed by Dipendra Lama gave Adhikari his first taste of a commercial hit. The 'witch's house' built by him forgot the tag . So now how many people ask Keki, how did the "witch's house" go?

However, Kiki says that she doesn't have a 'formula' to run a film. "The formula of a money-making film doesn't seem to come from a witch's house." Yes, I tasted success with the witch house . But, till then, I was given the tag of a successful actor of a failed film,' Keki said in the 'Chalachitra Sabha' organized by Kathmandu University that 'Boksi Ko Ghar' did good business in the domestic market with different policies of story, songs and publicity. At the beginning of the

, the production team had to rush to convey the theme of this film to the audience. At first glance, the theme raised by the film was new. "The witch's house was an art film". However, we wanted to run the film in the hall. That's why we collaborated with many brands to reach a large audience,' Keki shared her experience looking at the audience.

In an interactive program titled 'Mahotsav Film vs. Domestic Market', Vinod Paudel, the producer of 'Poorna Bahadur Ko Sarangi', also revealed the special reason why the film created a commercial stir. Vinod has the experience of 'Poorna Bahadur's Sarangi' being a hit at the box office while telling the story honestly.

There was no pressure to take this artist after looking at the market. But we signed the actor that the story asked for, Vijay Baral joined that way . The main thing is the theme raised by the film, said Vinod.

Till now the highest grossing 'Poorna Bahadur Ko Sarangi' was running in the hall, there was a rumor that the production team had sold 12 lakh tickets. Producer Paudel told that the hawala forced him to buy tickets and that rumor was true. Paudel's experience surprised those present in the interaction for a few moments!

'We played Purna Bahadur's sarangi even though we had to buy tickets to keep it in the hall for a week. So I think the hall should trust Nepali films for a week. But, it is not given like that here . But, to save it, there is still the compulsion to buy a ticket here,' said Vinod.

Director Dipendra Lama added that Nepali films had to struggle for the exhibition until now because the owner of the hall could not understand the film. He also said that the hall would be haunted that day until the faces used in the film were kept. Nepotism does not work especially in the hall. The theater owners of Nepal still don't understand Nepali films," Lama said. "The theaters have been giving them only films with popular faces like Dayahang Rai and Pradeep Khadka. Producer Paudel agreed with Lama's statement and added, "Hall owners give more credit to foreign films than Nepali films." Nepali films are still struggling for that.'

Keki also narrated her experience with the hall . According to him, many people looked for a hero in the film before "Boksi Ko Ghar" was released. However, this film was based on women-centric themes. Keki himself is in the lead role . During the meeting, Keki told that the box office does not want to accept even a woman's face. It was a challenge not to have a hero's face, there was a question of who is the hero, when we ran our film. But, we took a risk with the content," said Adhikari, "Koholpur Express had actresses like Priyanka Karki, Richa Sharma and Rima Vishwakarma. But, even now, there is a search for heroes here.'  Even in the case of Nepali films that have reached the

festival, there is a struggle to get it in the hall. Meanwhile, comments were also made that films that reached the festival did not do well at the box office. However, in the meantime, 'Gaon Eni Bato' and 'Shambala' became exceptions by tearing this commentary. However, in the case of most of the films that have reached the festival, they have been weak at the box office. However, Lama says that the quality of these films that have reached the world market should not be measured according to the box office numbers. Director Lama argues that the film that reached the festival did not have a strong presence in the domestic market because the taste of the film targeted at the festival did not match the taste of the domestic audience.

'Being a film artist and doing business is a different thing . It is wrong to say that this film is good or bad on the basis of business,' said Dipendra, 'Now Parasite has reached the first place in the list of films released by the New York Times. But so far the film that has done very well commercially is Avatar. Therefore, good business of the film is one part, reaching the film festival is another part.

director Suvarna Thapa believes that the film development board should honor not only the highest grossing film but also the film that has reached the festival. Agreeing with Suvarna, director Lama added, "Shambala is the best film for me in the list of 25 highest grossing films released by the Development Board. Just because Shambhala made less money does not mean that it is a bad film.'

He says that the film going to the festival represents the country in the international market and its contribution should not be forgotten. 'Going to a film festival is to introduce the country to that platform . It is to introduce various subjects from the culture to the audience there. Can the 25 films released by the board compete in the international market? Suvarna said, "Shambala and the road to the village have done well from the global market to the domestic market." But, can the rest of the films on that list show the same kind of presence?'
