Shrikrishna Shimkhada is a poet/artist who satirizes power through poetry. He is also known for his ability to caricature the voices of different people.
Those who know him may be wondering what this actor who has not seen much on screen lately is doing. "Nowadays I walk in schools and colleges reciting satirical poems," he said, "meeting students". I enjoy interacting with them.'
Sometimes he doubts about his own poetry. They think, 'The poetry I am writing, is it poetry?' But after being praised by the sources, they are relieved. He says that new energy will be added when meeting with new generations. He says, ``They understand things quickly . He quickly accepts the feeling of poetry.' He has also recited
poetry in the halls of Pragya Pratishthan and National Auditorium. But who has the time to listen? Shri Krishna went out for a walk on the hill on a Saturday. 4 students of a school were planting plants. "Didn't you come to recite poetry in our school?" the students said in a curious manner. Shri Krishna was surprised . He asked the students, 'So what is my name?' Then he recited some poems to those students . Lately, Shrikrishna says that he has stopped respecting himself . Explaining the reason, he says, "People are hungry for respect". There should be self-respect more than respect.'
Sometimes Shri Krishna goes to the stone guard to recite poetry, sometimes he walks in front of the falling waterfall while reciting poetry. Mixing the music of water in the rocks, they blow the image of poetry . They tell the forest by hanging banners on trees. Why?
He talks about environmental awareness . "This is to protect heritage like Dhungedhara, to explain the importance of trees, to make people understand nature," he argued.
While witnessing different geographies and reciting poetry, Shri Krishna would think, 'Especially the one we should have recited poetry to, we have missed it. But he is clear in his thinking . "Sometimes reciting poetry to people who don't understand is wasted." I do this so that it doesn't go to waste, how many people are surprised,' he says.
Srikrishna never caricatured only politicians. He also used to work with personalities from different fields. Like Dahal Yajnidhi, Durganath Sharma, Praveen Giri . Among the leaders, Krishna Prasad Bhattarai, Girija Prasad Koirala, Sushil Koirala, Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Sher Bahadur Deuba have been caricatured many times. Shrikrishna says that he (Sher Bahadur) once called him to his residence while doing a caricature of Sher Bahadur.
He also narrates an interesting incident with former Prime Minister and Chairman of CPN Maoist Center Pushpa Kamal Dahal, "I caricatured him in a program". Then he said - Shimkhada ji has spoken all the things that I have to say. What will I say?'
His caricature journey took shape after 2046 years. Before that, he used to caricature Krishna Prasad Bhattarai among his friends from time to time. After 2046, along with various leaders, he also caricatured the then king Birendra and Gyanendra. He has continued his journey through various street dramas and radio dramas.
Shrikrishna is also running new campaigns from time to time. Once he ran a 'shoe polishing campaign' on the streets. Ray had to explain, "Don't always keep shoe polishers on the ground." He also went out to clean the ring road.
Sometimes, he was also seen wearing the ring road. ``I have a burning desire to do something,'' he says, ``but apart from politics .''This nature of Srikrishna, who enjoys campaigning alone, has been there since his childhood. When I was a child, my parents used to watch the corn in the field. He used to stop looking at corn and go swimming.
By the time they arrived at the farm, the corn had already fallen victim to the monkey. After that, he used to hold back for fear of being scolded by his parents. "That's how I used to run away and go anywhere". Sometimes I used to be found washing dishes, sometimes I used to travel sleeping in the hood of a truck,'' he says . Sometimes he was carrying manure in someone's garden . Sometimes he used to collect a small amount of money by playing the charkha . After the clothes became muddy, they used to wash them by hitting them with stones in the river of Bagmati. And after drying, he used to wear it and walk.
When he was 16 years old, he climbed the mountain paths as a porter. The frostbite on his finger haunted him for 15 years . "But if I didn't do all these things, I wouldn't be an artist today," he says. When he reached home after a long time, he would touch his mother's feet. Mother used to say, 'It will never do farming . When it comes, feed a bag of milk rice to the stomach.'
It seems that the journey and experience he had during his childhood had an effect on his art. Now Srikrishna is on a campaign to connect his songs and poems with Viruva.
"Just like a plant bears fruit, I went to campuses and planted fruit trees so that my art, literature, and music also flourish," he says, "and I want to continue enjoying these creative works."
