Radio Kantipur has honored senior singer Devika Vandana, who has given voice to more than 1000 songs, in the 'Salam Jeeundo Itihasalai' program on Saturday. The radio has honored him for being actively involved in the promotion of Nepali music for the last 4 decades.
She once reigned supreme in Nepali playback singing and has sung in more than 100 movies. Apart from Nepali, she has also sung songs in Newari, Maithali, Bhojpuri, Marathi and Hindi. The number of his solo albums is around one and a half dozen .
Radio Kantipur's station manager Pawan Acharya said that the program was successful in discussing Devika Vandana's contribution to music and her courage to not give up music even when she was diagnosed with terminal cancer. On behalf of the radio, Acharya honored Devika Vandana by donning a certificate and dosalla.
Devika, who participated in musical programs from school level, has completed her formal studies as M Muse (musicologist) from the Indian organization Prayag Sangeet Samiti, India. His first song 'Hey Mayalu Teke' was recorded in the year 2046 . The song was included in Praveen Gurung's album 'Sangam'.
His first album 'Paradeshi' was released in the year 2052 . The song 'Euta Pardeshi I' from that album took him to the top of the discussion . The song has lyrics by Lalijan Rawal and music by Narendra Paci . It was at that time that the song 'Yastai Hoha Ahaan Ko Chalan' with lyrics by Yadav Kharel and music by Shambhujit Baskota was released and after that Devika never looked back.
'When I first got into music, I had a passion . Later I did sadhana . Now that I have overcome cancer, I am thinking that I was born for music,' said Devika. Not only as a
singer, Devika is also active in creative writing. His book 'Ihanko Chalan', 'Sapni', and 'Jitneko Haso' has been published. She said that the proceeds from the sale of books are spent on helping orphaned children and the elderly.
Devika, who likes to sing bhajans, is also known by many as a Nepali language aarti singer. After listening to my mother and mother-in-law performing aarti in Hindi while worshiping at home, I thought of recording the aarti in Nepali. Now, even in temples abroad, it makes me happy to have aarti in Nepali language,' she said.
The last period of her life was spent fighting with breast cancer. Even when she was diagnosed with cancer, she did not stop recording songs. 'After 4-5 days of chemo, I used to go to record songs,' she said, 'I felt that music made me powerful . That's why I embrace it in any situation.' Famous artists Rupak Dotel, Prashna Shakya, Nisha Deshar, Sarita Shahi and Manju Thapa performed some classic songs of Devika in the
event. The program was broadcast live on Radio Kantipur and Kantipur Max Television.
