The 22nd Kathmandu International Mountain Film Festival (KIMF) has started with the screening of 'Between the Mountain and the Sky'. More than 65 films from 30 countries around the world will be simultaneously screened at the QFX Chayaan Center, Estrek Hall and GAA Hall in Thamel during the festival which will run from June 14 to 18.
'Between the Mountain and the Sky' shows the social work and life of CNN Hero-winning social worker Maggie Doyne. The film, which is currently being screened in the United States of America, will be seen by the audience at the festival.
President of Kimf Foundation Ramita Limbu said that the selected films at the festival will work to connect culture and society through stories. "We believe that the audience will also be attracted by the lives of the characters of the films selected in this edition," said Limbu, "
Dinesh DC, the executive chairman of the Film Development Board, opined that films are not only entertaining but also documenting history. 'When we tell our story honestly, we are not just making a film . But, we are making history,' he said. Naveen Subba, the judge of the
festival, said that platforms like Kimf have raised him as well, and this festival has given place to many Nepali filmmakers. 'I also grew up from this platform . This platform has been nurturing many contemporary filmmakers, said Subba.
