Nepal's famous folk-classical music group Sukarm is currently busy with musical programs in European cities. The group left for Switzerland on May 7 with the intention of giving musical performances in four European countries, Switzerland, Italy, France and Belgium.
Sukarm will give two dozen musical performances in different cities of those countries during the month-long musical journey.
This year, the group's sitarist Prof. Sukarma's tour team. Dr. Dhruveshchandra Regmi and flute player Umesh Pandit. Abhirod Sharma has reached Europe from New York, America to accompany these two members of Sukarma on tabla. Sharma, a tabla player from the West Indies, a Caribbean island nation, has been training and performing music through the East Indian Music Academy in New York. Sharma, who has been nominated for Grammy Award for Best Music Album, has visited Nepal many times and has been sharing music with Sukarma.
'We have been performing for two decades at various music festivals in Europe and at the invitation of people and organizations who love Nepali and Nepal,' at Teatro Dimitri in Ticino, Switzerland After the musical performance, Dhruveshchandra said, 'We have found the response of the audience and especially the interest towards Nepali folk-classical music very encouraging. Our purpose this time is somewhat charitable in nature. We will also collect funds for the promotion of Nepali culture and organizations that are doing charity work in Nepal.'
Sukarma's performance will pass through the cities of France and Belgium and end in Bonn, Germany on June 2.
