The eighth edition of the Nepal International Film Festival (NIF) has started with the screening of the film 'Shambala' directed by Meen Bahadur Bham. The festival started with the slogan of 'Celebration of stories from around the world' Nepal International Film Festival.

National Assembly Speaker Narayan Prasad Dahal inaugurated the festival. President Dahal said that such programs are necessary to introduce national and international artists to compete in the global market. It is the specialty of NIF that it has been presenting international movies on Nepali screens for eight years. NIF has played an important role in bringing together world filmmakers and film-related parties, he said.

Pakistan's ambassador to Nepal, Abrar H Hasmi, opined that Nepali films and the diverse culture of Nepal should become a source of inspiration not only for Pakistanis, but for the world. "There is a need for collaboration between Pakistani and Nepali filmmakers and artists for cultural exchange," he said.

87 films from 40 countries will be shown at this festival. Films that have reached the world famous film festivals Busan, Cannes, Locarno, Berlin have been selected for the festival this time. This time, Audience Choice, AI Award has been added to the festival. The Gautam Buddha Award will be given to the best feature film under the international competition at the festival with an amount of one thousand five hundred US dollars. 

The Mount Everest Award of one thousand dollars will be given to the best international documentary and the Bagmati Award of five hundred dollars to the best international short film.
