Taragaon Cultural Center in collaboration with Saraf Foundation is holding a large art exhibition at Taragaon Next in Buddh, Kathmandu. 10 women artists from South Asia will present their creations in the exhibition starting from January 12.
Conceived by Arsia Lokhandwala, the exhibition titled 'Feminist Futures: Art, Activism and South Asian Womanhood' will explore the complexities of feminism, art and activism in South Asia. It is said that the two-day exhibition will also cover topics like patriarchal structure, colonial heritage and gender politics. The
exhibition will include the creations of 4 women artists from India, 3 from Nepal and 1 each from Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Bangladesh. According to the organizers, Anita Dubey, Mithu Sen, Sheba Chhachi and Pushpamala N will also participate from India. Along with Nepal's Asmina Ranjith, Widhata KC and Uma Bista, Sri Lanka's Anoli Perera, Pakistan's Naija Khan and Bangladesh's Taiba Begum Lipika's creations will be exhibited.
Namita Saraf, founding director of Saraf Foundation and Taragaon Next, said that the exhibition was organized as an effort to connect the issues related to women's rights in Nepal with the struggles related to women's rights in South Asian countries.
