Dhangadhi, the city that hosted Nepal's first franchise cricket tournament about a decade ago. Since that time, Dhangadhi has been called the city of cricket. On that foundation, the dream of 'Dream Fapla' started in Dhangadhi, far west.
070 NPL conducted at Phapla Cricket Ground in Dhangadhi in Chait and Baisakh strengthened Dhangadhi as a city of cricket. Fapla also gave nationwide recognition .
Cricket activity in Dhangadhi has started since 066 . Under the leadership of Shahi, the SPA Inter College National Competition started . After that, DCL (Dhangadhi Cricket League) and Dhangadhi Premier League (DPL) were started in Dhangadhi commercially. Those competitions were successful.
At the same time, the first edition of Dhangadhi Cricket League (DCL) of 070 was organized at Phapla ground. At the same time, the playground got the name of 'Fapla' cricket ground when it was operated with the aim of giving more exposure to the players.
Then the 'Dream Fapla' campaign was launched. It has taken a decade and a half of hard work by the leaders of Dhangadhi to run the city of cricket Dhangadhi and Dream Phapla as a campaign. In order to make Dhangadhi known as a city of cricket, Suwash Shahi, a resident of Dhangadhi, also established the Dhangadhi Cricket Academy. Shahi's aim was to convey the message that Dhangadhi is capable of conducting international competitions by conducting various competitions.
After that, government leadership also started to be seen . The government's decision to develop Fapla Gaucharan, located on the banks of the Mohana River to the west of Dhangadhi Bazar, as a Fapla International Cricket Ground and Sports Village, raised the glow of hope in the entire sports field of the Far West and even cricket connoisseurs.
On 24th January 2017, the meeting of the Cabinet of the Government of Nepal decided to form a high-level development committee for the implementation of the plan by including Fapla International Cricket Stadium and Sports Village in the national priority plan. On 23rd May 079, the government formed the Fapla International Cricket Ground and Sports Village Infrastructure Construction Development Committee under the chairmanship of Shahi through the formation order.
The dream of ``Dream Fapla'' to build an attractive parafit, football ground, gymnasium, swimming pool, taekwondo and indoor hall, hotel, international level physical infrastructure, parking, training building, organized media center with a capacity of 50,000 spectators within the world-class grand cricket stadium was advanced three years ago after the government formed a development committee. Under the Fapla International Cricket Ground and Sports Village project, it is envisaged to develop tourism area in Mohana river, business center around the ground, hospitality and culinary arts area.
The Fapla International Cricket Ground and Sports Village Infrastructure Construction Development Committee has already prepared and passed the DPR. DPR has been prepared and passed. We have completed the environmental study and submitted it to the Ministry of Forests and Environment for a decision,' the chairman of the committee, Suvash Shahi, said, 'After the construction of Fapla International Cricket Ground and Sports Village, not only Dhangadhi, but also the business and tourism business of the Far West will contribute significantly to the development of sports in this area.' The committee's accounting officer Dapik Bhandari said that the environmental study assessment (EIA) has also been completed and the report has been submitted to the Ministry of Forests and Environment.
According to President Shahi, 26 billion budget will be required to build the sports village. But it is estimated that the cost of constructing a cricket stadium with a capacity of 50,000 spectators will be 11 billion. Chairman Shahi said that in the first phase, a blueprint has been prepared to build a stadium with a capacity of 25,000 spectators.
"We will build the cricket stadium in two phases," Shahi said, "In the first phase, a stadium with a capacity of 25,000 spectators will be built." The cost of which is estimated to be 6 billion. He said that the technical design of the infrastructure has been designed so that world-class cricket tournaments can be held in Fapla. It is the previous decision of the government to build a cricket ground on 38 bigha land of Fapla.
Sudurpaschim province government had announced that FAPLA will be promoted as a scheme of state pride at the initial stage . The Ministry of Social Development of the province announced the Phapla International Cricket Ground as a scheme of state pride and allocated 500 million in the budget program of 076/077. However, at that time, there was no land and the work could not proceed .
'Pradesh Sports Council also made DPR in 079 . But the work could not be done because there was no land," says Deepak Singh, then member secretary of the Provincial Sports Council. "That's when the association took over the project from the province." There are some who argue that when cricket activity decreases in the Far West, where franchise cricket and auctions have started in Nepal, it will affect the construction of Fapla.
Provincial Member of Nepal Cricket Association (CAN) Baburaja Shrestha says that the private sector's withdrawal of hands is the main reason behind the cessation of big tournaments in Dhangadhi in recent years. "After the development committee was formed, the private sector withdrew its hands for the competition to be held in Dhangadhi, there was no sports ground," said Shrestha, a member of CAN. "It was seen that the government will do it." "It is a mistake to think that we will hold an international tournament straight away," President Chand said, "Only if the infrastructure construction work is done in the long term and the tournaments can be continued, the identity of the 'Dhangadhi Cricket City' will be maintained and the pressure will continue." He said that the craze for cricket and the beautiful future of this region can also be estimated from the fact that there are a majority of players from the far west in the national cricket team.
