Church Boys United has become the champion of the Jhapa Cup football tournament. Church Boys won the title after defeating New Road Team (NRT) by 3-1 in the final on Monday. Along with the title, the church boys won a cash prize of 10 lakh rupees.
The runner-up, NRT Club, settled for 5 lakh rupees. Along with the victory, the Church Boys also avenged their defeat against NRT in the final of the Eelam Gold Cup held 10 days ago. NRT Club defeated Church Boys by 3-0 in the final of Eelam Gold Cup.
At the start of the tournament at the Domalal Rajvanshi Stadium in Birtamod, NRT kept the ball in position. But in the 21st minute of the game, Church Boys took the lead. Samir Tamang of Church Boys managed to score a goal by making use of the miss pass of NRT's defender. He netted the ball from the goalkeeper's hand from the middle of the field in a 'wan touch'.
In the 43rd minute, Church Boys doubled the lead. Armand, a foreign player who was unmarked in the debox, scored a pass that Rohan Karki mixed in the debox. Soon after, NRT returned 1 goal. Anjan Bisht, who is also the captain, made the result 1-2 by scoring a cross pass given by foreign player Carlos.
In the extra time of the game, Armand scored on Samir Tamang's pass to ensure the victory of Church Boys. Player of the Match Samir Tamang of Team Church Boys. He received a cash prize of Rs. Krishal Moktan of Church Boys, the best goal keeper of the
competition, Anjan Bista of NRT, the top scorer of the competition, Pradeep Budhathoki of Jhapa-11, who was selected as Jhapa Talent, each got a prize of 35 thousand rupees.
Most Valuable Player was Rohan Karki of Church Boys. He received a cash prize of Rs.
Meanwhile, Gopal Rai, manager of Jhapa-11 FC, received a Life Time Achievement Award with cash of 25,000. Constituent Assembly member Sudhir Kumar Sivakoti, Gorkha Tea Estate manager Uday Chapagain, organizer Jhapa 11 FC president Jalkumar Gurung, former president of Federation of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industry Tikaraj Dhaka and others distributed prizes and certificates to the winners and runners-up.
