Three years ago, there was an empty field on the western side of Birendranagar-8 housing area. After the country went to federalism, there was talk of building a stadium in Karnali province. Other provinces had some kind of sports structure. The then Chief Minister Jeevan Bahadur Shahi laid the foundation stone of the Karnali Stadium project on 21 Mansir, 2078 with the hustle and bustle of constructing a state-of-the-art stadium in Surkhet of Karnali Province and organizing the 10th National Games.

All pre-construction preparations like feasibility study, land acquisition etc. were completed during the previous Chief Minister Mahendra Bahadur Shahi's tenure.

'The 9th National Games were being prepared in Gandaki Province, we accelerated the construction of the stadium with the goal that the 10th National Games could be held in Karnali in November 2081 after completing the infrastructure work in three years,' said the then Chief Minister Jeevan Bahadur Shahi, 'as the pride of the province. As the project was promoted, it became a priority of every subsequent government, there was no obstacle in the construction of the project 99 percent of the work has been completed. It is considered as the state-of-the-art stadium in Nepal. In addition to Karnali stadium under construction in Birendranagar by the provincial government, a cricket ground has been constructed in Kalinchok targeting the 10th national sports and has been handed over to the Karnali Pradesh Cricket Association for operation and management.

This grand and beautiful stadium is inviting the 10th national sports and is showing that it is capable of managing the Mahakumbha of Nepali sports. Council Member-Secretary Vishwamitra Sanjyal says that all the infrastructure for the 10th National Games is ready. "There is no shortage in Karnali in terms of infrastructure, the competition can be conducted in different districts so that there is no problem in housing management," he says.

On November 3, 2079, the flag was handed over to Pokhara, Gandaki province, to organize the tenth national sports competition in Karnali from November 2 to 9, 2081. At that time, the then Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba had entrusted the responsibility of tithing to Yagya Bahadur Budhakshetri, Minister of Social Development of the province. The proposed date of November 2 is that of the National Sports Council. Due to various reasons, even after this date, it has not been decided on which date the competition will be held. The federal government has not proposed a new date. Due to this, the 10th national sports competition scheduled to be held in Karnali is in confusion. As the date is not set, the province is also preparing for the management of the game. The players who are in closed training have been sent home and the sports structures in readiness are locked. 

Time and again the change of power of the center and the state has directly affected the tenth competition. It has been accused of putting the future of 10s in doubt by trying to create sports councils that are friendly to the political leadership. According to Bindaman Bista, the former finance minister of Karnali Province, for the first time in the history of Nepal's sports sector, when one national competition is over, the date of the next competition has been set for the tenth national sports competition. "The point of view of Karnali is not right, there is no more interest in it than the 10th competition being held in Karnali," he said There is a saying.

Member-Secretary Sanjyal Can Karnali Province do 'Mahakumbh' of sports? He says that the doubt that the stadium will be built within the contract period has been shown by working. "Karnali had the opportunity to hold the national level competition for the first time, but the state government and the union government did not show interest, politics dominated the competition," he says. It is said that due to the lack of preparation by the federal government, even when the players and infrastructure are ready, the time for organizing the tournament is getting delayed. 

The council kept 220 players from around 8 sports in closed training. As there will be no competition, the players have been sent home from training. Prem Hamal, Vice President of the Provincial Sports Council, claims that the competition was not held due to infrastructure. 'The structure has not been completed, so it is useless to say that the competition is delayed,' he said, 'various reasons have appeared here, the infrastructure is an excuse to move the competition.' Stating that preparations are being made, he informed that the ministry is discussing about the operating procedure. National Sports Council Member-Secretary Tanklal Ghising says that the competition could not be held on the specified date due to lack of interest from the government. Apart from Surkhet in Karnali, various games are planned to be played in Chaurzahari, Dailekh, Kalikot, Jumla, Humla and Mugu in Rukum West. 

Kabaddi in Dailekh, Karate in Calikot, Full Contact, Karate and Intelligence in Jumla, Hockey in Humla, Kabaddi in Mugum, Taekwondo in Rukum West, Table Tennis in Salyan were prepared. According to the council, managerial preparations have been made only by estimating the number of players and spectators who will be there when those games are conducted. A synthetic track of athletics 'IAF standard has been built in the Karnali Pradesh Stadium complex. Swimming pool of FINA standard, football field of FIFA standard, multipurpose indoor covered hall, outdoor playground, martial art covered hall have been constructed. Similarly, sorter block, parking, different types of fountains have been prepared. The construction has been completed at a cost of 1 billion 59 crore 47 lakh.

What's inside the stadium?

Karnali State Government has given the form of Gaurav's project in the state stadium, structures with various technical facilities have been built. According to the standards of FIFA, the football field built inside the stadium is 105 meters long and 68 meters wide. A parafit for 10,000 spectators has been built in the field. As the ground has been built according to the latest technology, if it rains, the competition can be resumed within 20 to 25 minutes. A new technology sprinkler has been installed for irrigation inside the field. 7 points have been installed so that the ground is irrigated within 30 minutes. Along with the field, infrastructure including changing room, waiting room, rest room, physio room and medical room has been constructed for the players. The indoor volleyball covered hall with a capacity of 1500 spectators is ready.
