The country's second largest stadium in Birganj has been neglected. In the current financial year, the government has allocated zero budget for the reconstruction of Narayani Stadium. The reconstruction work is at a standstill as the government does not send the budget. The employees have attended and spent the day in the office.

The sports lovers here have complained that the government has neglected Narayani Rangshala when the government did not allocate budget for the multi-purpose scheme. According to the DPR (Detailed Study Report), 2.64 billion rupees will be spent on the reconstruction of this stadium, according to the National Sports Council. In the financial year 2077/078, the government allocated 5 million rupees for the reconstruction of the stadium and 2 million rupees for the construction of a new covered hall. Block 'C' of the stadium has been demolished and the new construction has been completed. In the last financial year, the government had awarded a contract of 75 lakhs for the railings and plaster of the same parafit. The work has also been completed.

The budget has not been allocated even for the Curved Hall, which was started at a cost of 16 crore rupees, in the current financial year. For the covered hall, the government has sent 2 crore 13 lakh rupees twice so far. The parafit construction of two sides of the covered hall has been completed so far. On March 25, the then Youth and Sports Minister Virajbhakt Shrestha Narayani came to Birganj for on-site monitoring of the stadium and covered hall. He assured that the budget will be allocated for multi-purpose schemes. However, zero budget has been allocated for stadium reconstruction in the current year.

Khandahar Narayani Stadium due to lack of budget

On Sunday, the Minister of Youth and Sports of the Federal Government, Tejulal Chaudhary Narayani, said that the stadium will be reconstructed with the help of foreign donors while conducting an on-site inspection. "The donor has demanded a DPR," said Minister Choudhary, "There is a plan to build the Narayani Stadium with a foreign donor, the talks with the donor have progressed."

Even though the 11th National Games are said to be held in Madhesh after two years, the government has not allocated funds for the physical infrastructure here in the budget of the current financial year. "I took over the Sports Ministry after the current year's budget," said Minister Chowdhury, "We met with the Minister of Finance a few days ago and discussed the arrangement of the budget for sports infrastructure in Madhesh." He revealed.

Dilapidated stadium

The stadium with a capacity of about 15,000 spectators was built in 2038. In the past, Grand National Games, Tej Bahadur Gold Cup, Mahendra Gold Cup and Laxman Thapa Gold Cup and AFC U-16 Qualifiers were organized in this stadium. Super division teams from Nepal and India participated in the Gold Cup. However, after the Laxman Thapa Geld Cup in 2058, no major tournament was organized for about 16 years. Since 074, Vishal Foundation organized the Gold Cup at Narayani Stadium with the participation of the departmental team and the Indian team, and returned a high-level football tournament to Birganj after almost a decade and a half. Sports activities have come to a standstill since 6 years after banning the entry of spectators to the north and south parapets of the stadium, which has become dilapidated due to lack of protection.

There are holes in most of the parafits. Some parts are broken. The rods are bent with rust. According to the sports officials, no other district has the same infrastructure and land as the Narayani stadium in province number 2. However, despite being the leading economic and commercial city of the country, due to lack of timely protection and maintenance of sports infrastructure, Birgunj is falling behind in sports.

DPR for 25 lakhs

For the reconstruction of Narayani Stadium in Birgunj, which had become a ruin, the National Sports Council had appointed a technician and prepared the DPR of the stadium 6 years ago. Rakhepa had spent 25 lakh rupees for DPR. According to the DPR, 2.64 billion rupees are required for the reconstruction of the stadium. The stadium owns 18 bighas of land with football and cricket fields. According to the report, after the reconstruction, the football field will have a capacity of 15,000 and the cricket field will have a capacity of 7,000. It is mentioned in the DPR that a multi-purpose covered hall will also be constructed.
