82 percent of the construction of the state stadium, which was launched as a pride project by the Karnali state government, has been completed. Aiming at the upcoming 10th National Sports Competition, the construction work has been accelerated.
Karnali Pradesh Sports Development Council has said that 18 percent of the work will be completed within two months and has emphasized on the construction work. So far, the stadium with a capacity of 10,000 spectators has been equipped with 3D animation and 6,000 chairs in the spectator parapit.
The civil construction work has been completed on the parapit towards VIP . The work of swimming pool, commercial shutters, gate construction, tree planting and greening is in final stage. The finishing work towards the parapit and the construction of the roof is going on at a fast pace . Similarly, athletics, track/ road blackout is ready to be done in a week.
Member Secretary of the Sports Council Vishwamitra Sanjyal said that the entire construction of the stadium will be completed in the month of August. "Until June, 90 per cent of the work will be done". We have worked day and night,' he said, 'We have fulfilled our responsibility, the government should be ready to hold the competition at the appointed time.' He said that 76.54 percent of the total budget has been spent. In the current financial year, the state government allocated Rs 85 crore for the stadium. MAC/GSL JV, which took over the construction work with the aim of finishing on 11th May 2081, has claimed that the work has been delayed due to corona and earthquake.
The Vice President of the Sports Council, Prem Hamal, said that due to Corona and the earthquake, the contract has been slightly delayed. "Even 18 percent is usually only work left," he said, "It was not even imagined that the work would be completed in the specified time."
The competition will be held on time : Minister Shrestha
Minister of Youth and Sports Virabhakt Shrestha has committed to hold the 10th National Sports Competition on time . He has given instructions to prepare for the tournament to be held in Karnali as a grand festival. Minister Shrestha, who came to Surkhet to inspect the construction of infrastructure, appealed not to worry about whether the competition would be held at the specified time.
"The federal government is ready to arrange the necessary budget," he said, "let's not let there be a lack of budget". The happy thing is that the state government has succeeded in building infrastructure on its own. Minister Shrestha said that the union government has allocated 600 million for the 10th sports project.
