Two dozen health centers in 10 municipalities of Salyan are dilapidated. Health workers have been providing services from these health centers that were built two decades ago.
Out of 7 health posts in Sharda Municipality, Srinagar, Syanikhal, Marke, Sejwalthakura, Dandagaon, Bagchaur Municipality, one of 5, Bangad Kupinde Municipality, 2 out of 7 Jayatpani and Majhkanda, 3 in Darma, 4 in Kapurkot, 4 in Kalimati, 2 out of 5 in Kumakh, 5 in Triveni. 1 out of 2 out of 3 in Siddhakumakh Rural Municipality Health posts are dilapidated.
There is a problem of water leakage during rainy season in buildings with narrow rooms. But the federal government and the municipality have been saying that there is a lack of budget to build a new building. Health workers say that health services are being affected due to having to provide services from old and dilapidated buildings. Although there are 45 health centers in the district, only 20 of them have concrete buildings.
Yagya Bahadur Pariyar, in-charge of Ghuiyabari health post in Kaprechaur, Kalimati Rural Municipality-7, said that there is a problem of water leakage in rainy season due to the narrow rooms and rusted roofs.
'After the municipality repaired it, it is possible to provide Jenten service, but it is not effective. If many patients come for treatment at once, they have to sit outside," he said. "There is no light system yet. In this health institution, which is also serving as a birthing center, the delivery should be done by lighting a torch.'
A similar situation exists in Triveni rural municipality-4 Sarikot health post. This health post building was built in the year 2048. Balivan Bista, in-charge of the health center, said that the relevant agencies were not interested in the construction of the new building. "From the outside, it looks fine because it has been renovated, but because it is an old building, there are not enough rooms," he said. Many types of services should be provided from the same room.
Darma Rural Municipality-5 Dhakadam Health Chowki's building has been cracked by the earthquake. The building, built two decades ago, has been damaged by the earthquake inside and outside. As the municipality did not arrange the building, neither the building nor the service could be left immediately. As the patients who came could not be sent away immediately, they had to provide services on foot," said in-charge Deepak Chand. He informed that despite the demand for reconstruction, the budget was not available.
Birendra Kumar Hamal, Head of Health Branch of Sharda Municipality, said that the new building could not be built due to lack of budget. He says that the municipality also does not have enough budget. Yatra Bahadur Basnet, head of the health branch, said that not only the 3 health posts of Darma rural municipality, but also the condition of the buildings of the 5 basic and community health centers operated by the municipality are critical.
After last year's earthquake affected the building of the health center, he informed that services are being provided from tents in some places. Basnet says that although preparations are being made to build the buildings of two health institutions, there is no budget for the others.
Out of the seven health centers in Bangad Kupinde, Jayatpani and Majhkanda have not been constructed, so they are being repaired, said Vasudev Pokharel, head of the health branch. He informed that the building of 6 urban health unit centers operated by the municipality is also not moving.
Gorakh Bahadur Thapa, head of the health branch of Kalimati rural municipality, said that the municipality could not spend 2-3 crores to build a single building. Due to this, he said, he was forced to provide services from old and dilapidated buildings that are against the standards.
