Many of us are waiting for public transport ticket booking to open to go home on Dasain. On the other hand, in India, the British rock band 'Coldplay', which will be held three months from now, is busy trying to buy advance tickets.
Coldplay is coming to India for performances on January 18, 19 and 21 as part of their global music tour. After the tickets for the same concert in Mumbai were released this week, it caused a stir in India.
Chairman of the Samajwadi Party of India and Lok Sabha MP Akhilesh Yadav has raised the issue that the right to entertainment should be equal for everyone in the context of buying and selling Coldplay concert tickets. He believes that accessibility is the human-social aspect of any art. After Coldplay's tickets were sold at high prices in the black market, Akhilesh said that it also reflects the administrative weakness.
In order to reach as many fans as possible and to make concerts accessible to those with limited purchasing power, Coldplay has often adjusted ticket prices for their shows to suit everyone. The concert at DY Patil Stadium is also priced from INR 2,500 to INR 35,000 depending on the level, lounge and front stage. However, a controversy has arisen after tickets for the 'Music of the Spare World Tour', which is to be held there, were bought and sold at a higher price through the black market.
There have been news that tickets were bought and sold in the black market for between 3.5 lakh and 1 million baht. The official ticket selling platform 'Book My Show' has lodged a complaint with the police against this. Earlier, there was a similar controversy over the advance ticket facility for singer Diljit Dosanjh's concert in October. Diljit's fans had filed a complaint against the irregularities in ticket booking. Delhi Police issued a warning to ticket black marketers through social media.
Just last week, some Indian citizens who stood in line for 24 hours to buy Apple's new product, the iPhone 16, and even pushed each other, rushed to the online platform to buy Coldplay tickets this week. When the booking for the concert opened on Sunday, the 'Book My Show' platform crashed after more than 10 million people tried to buy tickets at the same time.
Even then, there is no chance of everyone getting a ticket. However, due to high demand, Coldplay decided to hold an extra day of concerts in India. Tickets for the third day concert added for January 21 will be released on November 22 and will be priced at 2,000 baht. Fans from different states of India are going to gather at one place to watch Coldplay's concert. As a result, the price of hotels in Mumbai has increased by 300 percent in the week of the concert, according to the Economic Times. "The hotels around the stadium have been booked and their prices have reached 142,000 rupees per night," the Times wrote, "Despite this, the demand is still high."
Coldplay, who had previously performed a concert in India in 2016, is highly regarded for its live performances. Their concert is regarded as a must-see performance. The presentation is designed to create an immersive experience for the audience by incorporating colored lights, screens, and space-like visual effects. The band has also performed grand concerts at places as isolated as the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt, the Great Wall in China. The band's songs like 'Yellow', 'Fix You', 'Something Just Like This', 'The Scientist', 'Viva La Vida', 'A Sky Full of Stars', 'Hymn for the Weekend' are famous.
Founded in London in 1996, the band's albums have sold more than 100 million copies, and the band's songs and performances are also widely viewed on streaming platforms such as Spotify and YouTube. The band has won the prestigious Grammy Award in the music industry 8 times.
Coldplay is not only famous as an exception when band music has slowed down in the world, it is also regarded as one of the most influential bands of the 21st century. The band features Chris Martin as lead vocalist and pianist, Johnny Buckland as lead guitarist, Will Champion as drummer and percussionist, and Phil Harvey as creative director. The 'Music of the Spears World Tour' started by the
band from Costa Rica two years ago is scheduled for 2025. During this musical journey, the band claims that they have performed 164 concerts in different countries of North America, South America, Europe and Asia, and 9.6 million spectators have participated and have earned a total of 1.059 billion dollars so far. A success in terms of both audience attendance and revenue, the concert band is also garnering praise for its environmental advocacy and other initiatives.
