Rai said that kiwi is sold for 150 to 200 rupees per kilogram. Rai said that the income from the same area cultivated last year was 1.5 million rupees, but this year the income will be only about 1 million rupees. ‘Last year, 10,000 kg of kiwi was produced, this year only about 8,000 kg,’ Rai said, ‘Last year, it was 1.5-1.6 million, this year it will be only 1 million rupees.’ Rai said that he started kiwi farming since 2071.

Rai said that they produce juices, wine, jam, candy, brandy, ice cream and other dishes from kiwi. Rai, who has been trained to make these dishes, said that he teaches others. 

Dorchi Sherpa of Mudhe, Solma, Diktel Rupakot, Majhuwagadhi Municipality-2, said that kiwi production has decreased by half this year. Similarly, Anti Sherpa from Mudhe also said that kiwi production has decreased this year. He said that the problem is also due to the lack of kiwi market. He said that he is preparing to send kiwi to Kalimati, Kathmandu this year.

Farmers have reported that kiwi production has decreased in other municipalities as well. According to kiwi farmer Udim Bahadur Rai, who is also the chairman of Khotehang Rural Municipality, kiwi production has also decreased in that rural municipality. According to him, about 12 metric tons of kiwi have been produced in that rural municipality. Rai said that kiwis including Hayward Green and Hayward Red have been produced in various places in the municipality including Chipring Dhalachung and Sawaktahare Nagi. According to him, they are being sold in the village for 80, 90 and 100 rupees. ‘Right now, they are being sold in the village for 80, 90, 100,’ Rai said.

Kiwi production has also decreased in Jantedhunga, Diprung Chuichumma, Sakela, Kepilasgadhi, and Ainselukharka rural municipalities. However, the exact percentage of the decrease has not been reported, said Deepak Chauhan, an agricultural economist at the Agricultural Knowledge Center, Khotang. Kiwi was planted on 73 hectares of land in Khotang until the fiscal year 2081/82. Chauhan said that last year, 500 metric tons were produced in Khotang. "This year's data has not yet been received," Chauhan said.
