The dry port and integrated check post, which were being operated by the government, will now be operated by the private sector. The Nepal Intermodal Transport Development Committee has entered into an agreement with the private sector to make the work of the dry port and the integrated check post quick and efficient. Ashish Gajurel, executive director of the committee, said that an agreement has been reached to operate on a public-private partnership (PPP) model.

The committee has entrusted Kakdavitta dry port, Biratnagar integrated check post, Birgunj dry port, Birgunj integrated check post, Chobhar dry port, Tatopani dry port, Bhairawa dry port, Nepalgunj integrated check post to the private sector. Gajurel said that the agreement regarding the operation of dry port and integrated check post was made for 5 years.

'From January 077 to October 080, we have given eight dry ports and integrated check post to the private sector to operate in PPP model. This has increased the service level, income has also increased," he said. He says that the committee, which earned 800 million annually in the past, will now earn more than 1.5 billion.

Kakdvitta dry port has been entrusted to Trans Nepal Freight Services Pvt. A contract was signed with the company on 14 Jan 077 for 5 years. A contract has been signed with that company for 5 years for a minimum lease amount of Rs. Biratnagar Integrated Check Post has also been given to Trans Nepal Freight Services Pvt. An agreement was signed with that company on 28 July 2017 for 315 million rupees for 5 years.

Birgunj Integrated Check Post has been given to TRS Himalayan Logipark Pvt Ltd. A contract has been signed with that company for 1 billion 809 million rupees for 5 years. Pristine Valley Dryport Pvt Ltd has been entrusted with the operation of Birganj Dry Port. The company has signed an agreement for 3 billion 329 million rupees for 5 years.

Bhairahawa Dry Port has been entrusted to Annapurna Terminal Pvt Ltd. A contract was signed with this company on August 1, 079 for a period of 5 years. A contract has been signed to distribute the minimum lease amount of 684 million rupees in five years and the fees according to the rules. Tatopani dry port has been handed over to Trans Silk Terminals Pvt. Tatopani Dry Port 079 Agreement was signed on August 29.

An agreement has been signed between Trans Nepal TRS Logipark Pvt Ltd for the operation of Chobhar dry port. The committee has signed an agreement on 080 November 18 to restore the minimum lease of 28.8 million for five years and distribute the fee according to the rules.

Nepalgunj Integrated Check Post has been entrusted to TRS Atlas Logipark Pvt Ltd. An international bid was invited for the operation of the check post on June 11. Atlas Terminal JV Kathmandu and Trans Nepal Freight Services Pvt Ltd Biratnagar applied. Gajurel said that TRS Atlas Logipark Pvt Ltd under Atlas Terminal JV was chosen among the two companies.

He says that there is a contract agreement with that company for 5 years for a minimum lease amount of Rs. Although the committee reached an agreement on 080 October 22, it is yet to be handed over.

Although the construction work of ICP towards India is over, there is still some left towards Nepal. During Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal's visit to India last May, the integrated post was inaugurated in Nepalgunj in the presence of Prime Minister Dahal and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi, but it has not been fully operational. The foundation stone of the post was laid on October 26, 1977 with the financial and technical support of the Government of India. However, it has not been fully operational yet. Executive director Gajurel said that it will probably be transferred this March.

During the Prime Minister's visit to India, the foundation stone of the integrated check post to be built in Bhairahawa has been laid. It is said that there is a program to build the integrated check post in 16 months. MoU on construction of Dodhara Chandni Integrated Check Post and Dry Port has been signed. For this, EIA and land acquisition work has been done. According to the agreement, the construction can be done in 3 years, according to the committee. It is said that an integrated check post and a dry port will be constructed in Chandni Municipality of Kanchanpur.
