As part of the Mugling-Pokhara road expansion plan of Prithvi Highway, house demolition has been started in Damauli, the headquarters of Tanahun. The boundary of the highway has been reduced to prevent some houses falling within the road boundary from collapsing. The Prithvi Highway, which was designed in 2026, is going to be made into a four-lane road with the loan support of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) due to the increase in traffic.

Although the four-lane road boundary is designed at 25/25 meters both ways, the physical structures on the "right of way" of Damauli and Dumre Bazar have been demolished in the design of 23/23 meters. 

Mugling-Pokhara Road Plan East Section Engineer Bishnu Prasad Pandey said that according to the new design, the road has been designed in Damauli and Dumre Bazar area in two-way 23/23 meters. The limit of the road is 25/25 meters. But now, to advance the work, the design of 23/23 meters has been worked on,” he said. He said that if the government wants to demolish these houses again, the road boundary will be set at 25/25 meters. 

"Those who are occupying the road should vacate the road boundary," he said, "but now when the 25-meter road boundary is established, many houses will be destroyed and many disputes may arise." Land compensation also costs a lot. Therefore, we have moved ahead with the work by clearing as much land as is needed now and if more land is needed later, we can take 2/2 meters of land. According to the project, there is a new design to install drains, footpaths and electricity poles in the meter. About 70 houses in Damauli market area have to be demolished, 50 people have received the first installment, the rest are said to be in contact. A compensation of around 6 crore rupees has been fixed for the houses here. Similarly, Pandey, the engineer of the eastern section, said that eight houses in the Dumre market area are yet to be demolished.

According to Vaikunthanath Mishra, President of Tanahun Industry and Commerce Association, because the government has given compensation only to those who fall within 23 meters of the road limit, the physical structures that fall under this standard have been demolished. "We requested the concerned bodies including the local bodies, district people's representatives to be serious about this matter and maintain uniformity in the road boundaries," he said, "make the market area and the road beautiful, orderly, not unstable, and not allowed to live in evil." Therefore, we also want the highway limit to be 25 meters. But the government was not ready to maintain the road boundary of 25 meters.'

Mishra said that the work was carried forward according to the government's instructions that the old structures within the road boundary of the highway should be demolished within 23 meters and the boundary of new structures should be 25 meters. Vaikunth Neupane, head of Beyas Municipality, said that it was agreed that 23 meters of roads will be built in urban areas and 41 meters in rural areas while signing the contract with ADB. No compensation has been given for the land within 23 meters while expanding the road. But since the contract agreement was to provide compensation only for the physical structures within the boundary, it was done accordingly," Mishra said. "Since the government has to pay compensation, we could not ask to demolish only 25 meters." Adhikari Janardhan Gautam accepted. "The standard of the highway is 25 meters," he said, "but since 23 meters will save some houses, there has already been an agreement to make 23 meters in Dumre and Damauli market areas." Due to the fact that they are unwilling to demolish, there will be various problems, a 23 meter road boundary was made in the case of Dumre and Damauli market.
