The Association of Nepalese Origin (ANO), established with the aim of uniting people of Nepali origin scattered around the world, has expanded its ninth national branch in Canada. A new executive committee was announced under the chairmanship of Chitra Pradhan during a special ceremony held in Toronto, Ontario on Saturday.
Formed under the leadership of Chitra Pradhan, a retired Nepali speaker who has been involved in the teaching field in Canada for a long time, the committee will play a coordinating role among the diverse Nepali-speaking communities in Canada, ANO said in a statement.
Similarly, Amy Karmacharya (Burmese Thai, Nepali origin) has been elected as the vice-president, Muga Rajbhandari as the general secretary, Bhim Sigdel (Bhutanese Nepali origin) as the secretary, Laxmi Prasad Timsina as the treasurer and Juni Chapagain as the spokesperson.
The board members include Bhim Pathak (Neer Bhim), Santosh Timsina, Lalit Koirala, Ramesh Timsina, Roshan Bhattarai and Jaya Prasad Humagain.
Addressing the program, ANO Central President Dilli Adhikari said, 'ANO is not a competing organization of NRNA, but a common platform to connect people of Nepali origin around the world who have not been included socially, culturally and economically.' Similarly, the organization's Central General Secretary Chudamani Bhattarai informed that the organization has reached 9 countries of the world and its next goal is Europe.
Newly elected President Chitra Pradhan expressed her commitment to remain active in the protection of Nepali art and culture by uniting the Nepali, Bhutanese and Indian Nepali-speaking communities in Canada.
The program was attended by NRNA Canada President Jagan Sapkota, Treasurer Indira Rijal, Professor Dr. Tulsi Dharel, Dr. Govinda Singh Rawat, Professor Dr. Rajendra Panthi, journalist Shailesh Shrestha and other guests were present.
