The 6th Asian Beach Games have kicked off in Sanya, a coastal city in China's Hainan Province, with a grand and extraordinary cultural tableau. The Asian Beach Games kicked off on Wednesday night with fireworks and cultural performances under the sky. The Asian Beach Games were inaugurated in the presence of sports representatives from all 45 member countries and regions of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA). The flag of Nepal was hoisted at the stadium along with that of various Asian countries. The opening ceremony was addressed by Chinese State Councilor Chen Yiqin, Chairman of the Sanya Asian Beach Games Organizing Committee and Governor of Hainan Province Liu Xiaoming, and OCA President Prince Gabriel. The participants were excited by the tropical charm and sports vitality of Hainan's culture and sports spirit.
China has given great importance to the first major international games since Hainan Province was converted into a free trade port. More than 1,600 players are scheduled to participate in 14 sports and 62 events.
Nepal is competing in women's kabaddi on Thursday itself. The first match will be between India and Sri Lanka, the second match will be between Thailand and Bangladesh, and the third match will be between Nepal and Chinese Taipei.
The Chinese mainland, however, has not participated in kabaddi. Nepali team captain Manmati Bista said that she expects to achieve some kind of achievement based on her hard work. She told Kantipur, "Chinese Taipei is a strong competitor for us, and we are going into the field with the determination to perform well in other games."
