UK-based Nepali organization Tamu Dhee UK has increased the prize money for this year's Gorkha Cup football tournament.

The Gorkha Cup is known as the largest and most popular football festival organized by the Nepali community in the UK. Organizer Tamu Dhee UK President Jumkaji Gurung said that the decision has been made to increase the first prize money for the main and veteran categories.
According to him, this year the main winner will receive 3,500 pounds and the veteran winner will receive 1,800 pounds. Last year, the main winner received 3,000 pounds and the veteran winner received 1,500 pounds.
This year, the main runner-up will receive 2,000 pounds and the veteran runner-up will receive 1,200 pounds. The winner of the women's category will receive 600 pounds and the runner-up 400 pounds. He said that a meeting held on Sunday at Tamu Dhee UK's building in Michett decided on the football competition and prize money.
According to Tamu Dhee UK's sports secretary and Gorkha Cup sports coordinator Deepak Ghale, 50 teams will compete in this year's Gorkha Cup. 32 teams will participate in the main category, 16 teams in the veteran category and 2 teams in the women's category.
The team registration fee has been fixed at 350 pounds for the main and veteran categories and 300 pounds for the women's category. The team and stall registration process has been opened from April 5, according to the organizers. In the 23rd edition last year, Nepali Dream won the main category, Himalayan won the veteran category and Rander Bolt won the women's category.
The best performing teams in the competition will be awarded trophies and prizes. The organizers have also stated that arrangements will be made to honor the best player, top scorer, best goalkeeper and best striker.
Dr. Vishal Gurung, general secretary of the organizer Tamu Dhee UK, said that cultural performances, entertaining games for children and the fair, Naumati Baja and other programs will also be organized in the Gorkha Cup.
Meanwhile, the meeting has also decided to participate in the 'Trail Walker' program every year. For this, the committee, coordinated by advisor Shanta Kumar Gurung, includes Vice President Kamal Gurung, advisor Tarkajung Gurung and life member Bhim Gurung.
