Pasa Puch: Guthi UK has intensified preparations for the third London Biska Jatra. The jatra is scheduled to be held at the Dartford Open Air Theatre, Central Park on April 19. Guthi held a press conference at the Gorkha Capricorn Club in South East London on Saturday to inform about the preparations for the jatra.
The jatra is being organized in collaboration with the Nepali Embassy in London and with the help of local organizations.
At the press conference, Pasa Puch: Guthi UK former president and patron Ojesh Singh informed about the history of the major jatra Biska held in Bhaktapur. He said that this jatra, which is celebrated by pulling the chariots of Bhairav and Bhadrakali, will be held in London for the first time in 2022, the second in 2024 and the third time this year.
Singh said that the jatra will be celebrated in its own original way without following the Nepalese tradition. Explaining that the celebration was started with the aim of preserving the British Newa heritage, he also said that the aim is to make London a hub for international jatras.
Event Coordinator and President of Pasa Puch Guthi UK South East London Branch Suroj Maskey said that about 2500 spectators are expected at the festival.
Pasa Puch Guthi UK Central President Sushil Prajapati said that his organization has been showing Biska Jatra, Indra Jatra, Kha Jatra for a few years and said that it will internationalize Newa art and culture.
Pasa Puch Guthi UK South East London Vice President and Cultural Coordinator Satya Prasad Prajapati gave information about the important aspects of Biska Jatra.
He said that the main attractions of the festival will be Bhairav/Bhadrakali Rath, Yosin Deo, Sindur Jatra with four Khas, Samebji Don. He said that preparations are underway to give a special performance of Dhime Baja, Dha Baja, Khin Baja, Nay Khin Baja, nine flute players from four branches of Pasa Puch Guthi, Bhairav Kali Nach, Khya Nach, Gorkha Ko Taktuke Nach, and 72 people's Dhime Pyakhan.
Prajapati said that Newari food stalls including Yomari, Va, Samebaji and face painting for children will be available on that day.
