Nepal's Consulate General has started services in the US states of Texas and California.

The service was launched in Dallas, Texas, and San Francisco, California, where Nepalis live in large numbers. About 6 months after the decision was made by the Council of Ministers led by then Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, the Consulate Generals in Texas and California officially started their services on separate dates. With the increase in work pressure at the embassy in the capital, Washington, DC, and the Consulate General in New York, the number of Nepalis in most states in the US has increased, and the Government of Nepal had come up with a plan to operate the Consulate General in the two states simultaneously to expand the service.

The Consulate General, which will be operated from San Francisco, will cover 11 states in the western region of the US, including California, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, Wyoming, Idaho, Oregon, Montana, Washington, Alaska, and Hawaii. Similarly, the Consulate General, which operates from Dallas, has made Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Colorado, Kansas and Mississippi its jurisdiction and operates services.

The service started in California in the last week of September and in Texas in the second week of October, said Suresh Adhikari, Consul General of Texas. Although the decision to establish consulates in both states was made simultaneously, the timings differed due to technical reasons and delays in determining the location of the office. “As far as I know, full service is being operated in California,” he said. “Although full service is also being operated in Texas, we have been moving forward considering technical errors in the first few weeks.”

Although passport services have intensified in California, the number of appointments in Texas has been kept low. Consul General Adhikari said that the number of appointments for passport processing will be increased after some technical management is completed. "Although we have started office operations and services, we have not made public enough appointment dates for passport processing. Although we initially opened 5-10 appointments, we will increase the number of appointments for passport services after some technical management is completed in Nepal," he said.

With the completion of technical management along with the appointment of staff, the Consulate General of California had already started the work of passport applications, official power of attorney, consular authentication, and one-way travel permits a month ago. The Consulate General's official said that it will take about two weeks in Texas to fully start all the work under the jurisdiction of the Consulate General.
