A one-day Nepali fair has been organized on Saturday in New York, the main city of America. 'Himalayan Street and Our Fair' has been organized with the aim of promoting Nepali food, culture and originality on the streets of Jackson Heights, New York.
Organized jointly by Nimji, Om and Dipen, the fair featured Nepali food, original items, cultural identity items and various stalls representing Nepal. There were 37 stalls in the fair which was visited by Nepali, Indian and South Asian communities as well as tourists. At the
fair, the Nepali musical band and the local artists of Nepali origin were performing the program, which also attracted American citizens. The
fair was co-sponsored by New York State MP Stephen Raga and Queens City President Donovan Richards Jr. and the collaboration of New York-based Nepal Government Tourism Promotion. "NY Nepali Work Post" and "Champion Martial Arts Club" also collaborated to make the fair effective.
Organizer Dipendra Lama informed that the fair was organized to promote tourism in Nepal, expand access to Nepali goods in America and promote local Nepali businesses. He also claimed that the fair has directly benefited Nepali businessmen and the trade of original items of Nepal. Gokul Shrestha, Tourism Promoter of the Government of Nepal for New York said that the
fair has played an important role in the promotion of Nepal's tourism. "The fair to be held in the coming days will be made more effective," he said, "next time we will add stalls and increase the participation of local people." The organizers claim that the items displayed in the
fair and the original food of Nepal have attracted local citizens. Various informative books about Nepal were also distributed in the fair. The fair was observed by local government representatives and Rajya Sabha MPs.
