Making the preservation and promotion of the culture of non-resident Nepalis the main agenda, Devendra Kharel has announced his formal candidacy for the post of coordinator of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) South Australia.
Voting for the term 2025-2027 is being held on July 26. Announcing his candidacy, Kharel said that his priority is to keep the Nepali language, art, customs and original identity alive within the NRN community. Culture is our true identity. "The new generation is forgetting our language, moving away from the culture," said Kharel, "NRNA should never be an organization of the newcomers from Nepal". NRNA should be the parent of our second-third generation as well. For that, we have to introduce our Nepali culture to the new generation.'
Kharel, a registered nurse, has been active as a public officer in NRNA South Australia since 2021. He is also the vice president of Nepali Pathshala Adelaide and has experience in the fields of cultural preservation, education, mental health and institutional cooperation.
