On Sunday, Manhattan, the main area of the busy city of New York, became buzzing with panchebaza. The National Anthem, played along with the panchebaza, which was played on the streets of Manhattan, drew everyone's attention to introduce the traditions, costumes and culture of Nepal.
Hundreds of Nepalis dressed in Dhaka topi, Daura Suruwal and Gunyu Choli not only introduced Nepal but also presented the culture and tradition of Nepal in the world's most developed cities . Such a presentation was made this year under the Nepal Day Parade which has been celebrated in New York since 2016.
The Nepali crowd in New York was buzzing with panchebaza, bhajan, deuda, sorathi, maithili, sherpa and tamang cello. Hundreds of Nepalis and Nepali Americans were present in the parade with the banners of about 12 organizations affiliated to Nepal.
Nepal Day Parade is organized in collaboration with Non-Resident Nepali Association, America New York Chapter and local Nepali Association. Gokul Shrestha, the promoter of the New York Pierton of the Government of Nepal, said that the Nepal Day Parade is celebrated every year on the occasion of the Republic Day of Nepal.
'We have been celebrating the Nepal Day Parade with the aim of introducing Nepal to the US along with the identity, culture and tradition of Nepali people', he said, 'For us, this is an important festival, our pride.' Shrestha also claimed that since New York is a city where tourists come from all over the world, the presentation made here will attract the attention of tourists from the developed countries of the world. He said that the musical performance that reflects Nepal's diverse arts, culture and traditions has made the city of Manhattan Nepali.
Nepali people who attended the meeting from New York, New Jersey and Connecticut showed their love for the country and showed their unity and national spirit in the meeting organized by dancing and playing instruments with Nepali clothes, flags and banners.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams and Senator Chuck Sumer inaugurated the parade with the presence of local public representatives . Inaugurating the parade, Mayor Adams said that Nepalis have strengthened their presence in New York along with their culture. Banners of Nepal's tourist destinations, Everest, Lumbini, Janakpur and Pashupatinath were displayed in the parade. In the parade, which was watched with great interest by locals and tourists, a message was also given that one should visit Nepal to gather life experience from every angle.
Manita Gurung played the role of coordinator in the parade chaired by Chiring Sherpa, President of NRNA New York Chapter. Nepali Consulate General New York cooperated for the parade.
