The Executive Vice President of the National Youth Council, Surendra Basnet, has said that the youth should play a leading role with international partnerships to minimize the effects of climate change.
In a conference organized by the International Organization of Youth of Non-Aligned Countries and the Malaysian Youth Council in the capital Kuala Lumpur with the participation of representatives of 17 Asian countries, he said that joint efforts are essential because the efforts of a certain country alone are insufficient in climate action. He said, 'World harmony and peace is possible only through non-aligned movement. Nepal and Nepali youth are always committed to the non-aligned movement and will remain so.'
He informed that the new National Youth Policy and Youth Vision will include climate action and the role of youth as the main pillars. He said that only by maximum participation of the youth from policy making to the implementation level, the voice of the youth will gain a place.
In the conference that lasted from February 23 to 26, Asian youth representatives including Nepal, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Belarus, Cambodia, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Jordan, Malaysia, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Oman, Uzbekistan and East Timor participated. The Youth Organization of Non-Aligned Countries was established by the conference of representatives of 63 non-aligned countries held in Azerbaijan in July 2022.
