Chandrakumar Ghimire, the Nepali Ambassador to the UK, has intensified the meeting with the British officials. Ambassador Ghimire, who had a meeting with the Assistant Foreign Minister for Indo-Pacific Affairs Catherine West last Tuesday, also met with Ben Mellor, the Director of Indo-Pacific Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Lizlie Craig, the Deputy Director of South Asia Affairs, and laid an important agenda for the British government.
In a meeting with Assistant Foreign Minister Catherine West, he discussed various issues of bilateral interest. Discussing that Nepal is an excellent destination for foreign investment, Ghimire insisted on increasing British foreign investment in Nepal.
Pointing to the recent reforms made by the Nepalese government for political stability and foreign investment, he said that there has been a suitable environment for investment.
Mentioning that Nepal is one of the best tourist destinations in the world, the Ambassador also asked for the re-operation of direct flights between London and Kathmandu in order to increase the number of British tourists in view of the deep goodwill towards Nepal in the British society.
Similarly, considering the unique relationship between the UK and Nepal, he has requested to further increase the foreign aid that Nepal has been receiving as well as to further enhance bilateral relations and to increase the British government's development assistance in some large physical infrastructures that create long-term economic benefits.
In addition to that, Ambassador Ghimire also reminded about the voice raised by Nepal for compensatory climate justice by giving an example of the side effects that Nepal has suffered from the effects of climate change recently.
'I have insisted on solving all the problems related to the former Gurkhas, which have been pending for a long time, as soon as possible', Ghimire told Kantipur. In the meeting, he also requested the minister to initiate a high-level political visit from Britain to Nepal with the Prime Minister.
Ambassador Ghimire has expressed his gratitude for the visits of Prince Edward and Princess of the United Kingdom (UK) who are currently in Nepal and the royal family in the past and has requested the Prime Minister to take the initiative to visit Nepal as well.
