In the fiscal year 2082/83, more than 1.2 million foreign tourists visited Nepal.
According to statistics published by the Nepal Tourism Board, a total of 1,209,357 foreign tourists entered Nepal during this period.
Among those visiting, the largest share is from neighboring country India. About 25.76 percent of total arrivals, or 311,531 tourists, came from India alone.
After India, 111,325 tourists came from the United States and 109,892 from China, establishing the US and China as the second and third largest source markets for Nepal's tourism, respectively.
Similarly, a significant number of tourists also arrived from Bangladesh (58,163), the United Kingdom (56,649), Australia (53,195), Sri Lanka (43,211), and Bhutan (36,289). In addition, the number of arrivals from Myanmar, Germany, Thailand, Japan, and Malaysia also exceeded 25,000.
According to the statistics, the highest number of tourists—124,829—arrived in Nepal during Kartik (October/November), which is considered the tourist season. Likewise, more than 119,000 arrived in Chaitra, over 114,000 in Falgun, and more than 111,000 in Ashoj.
Since the government has already announced that 2027 will be celebrated as the 'Year of Wellness Tourism,' it is expected that tourist arrivals will increase even further this year.
The Board stated in a press release issued Saturday that the upcoming strategy will focus on attracting high-spending tourists, extending their length of stay, and reaching new international markets.
