In order to ensure quality, reliable, and regular electricity supply in eastern Nepal, a team led by Acting Executive Director of Nepal Electricity Authority, Dirghayu Kumar Shrestha, has begun on-site monitoring of electricity infrastructure and distribution systems in Morang and Sunsari.
After public complaints increased regarding frequent power outages and flickering lights in Biratnagar and other eastern areas, Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Biraj Bhakta Shrestha, instructed the Authority's leadership to take immediate steps to resolve the issues.
Accordingly, Acting Executive Director Dirghayu Shrestha and Director of Distribution and Customer Service Directorate and Deputy Executive Director Rajan Dhakal, along with their team, have reached the eastern region.
The Authority's top leadership has discussed the current status of electricity supply, problems, and solutions with the heads of the regional office and distribution branch chiefs of Morang, Sunsari, and other districts. The Authority stated that a coordination meeting with 24 office and center chiefs at the regional office provided necessary instructions to make service delivery more effective.
The team inspected the transformer repair workshop and observed the condition of the Duhabi substation under the Duhabi Grid Division, instructing that necessary preparations be expedited.
Clear work orders have been given to staff and the construction company to complete the construction of the 132 kV substation at Barju, Sunsari within three months. The Authority stated that instructions have also been given to prepare a work schedule and advance construction of the substation at Kerang, Morang, with the goal of completing it within one month. As both substations are strategically important, staff have been instructed to ensure necessary coordination and facilitation. The contractor company has also been directed to mobilize sufficient labor.
According to the Authority, monitoring of other projects, the regional office, and distribution branches operating in the eastern region is ongoing. The Authority stated that staff have been encouraged to work with necessary coordination, facilitation, and responsibility to make electricity services more reliable, high-quality, and sustainable.
